Ok, so theoretically you have around 150 bucks. Your first thought is "awesome!" Your second "I was thinking of starting a new army, but which is the best way to get the most outta the money?"
So, if anyone feels like they could put an awesome force together for that kinda cash, lets see!
Only restrictions: No necrons or tau.
Must be a playable force.
Thanks!

Too bad you don't want tau or necron, those are pretty much the only battleforces you can make viable armies with.

So perhaps the thought is a little limiting. What Im trying to do is put together something different than what Ive already got.
What Ive already got includes: Tau, Orks, Eldar, and Chaos.
Necrons are going to get revamped at some point in the nearer-than-most-others-future, so there's no need to mess with them.
I had considered adding onto things Ive already got (dangerous thinking I know) but hesitate a little in favor of trying something new.
I disagree with your statements about 150 not being able to get much, I mean, hell, that's 2 tactical squads, Commander, dreadnought and an assault squad box set, that seems to be a decent start, if not the winning list as it were. It's a start though, so I guess that's more of what Im looking for.
Just for fun, here's a 1500 pt. ork list if anyone wants to comment on it.
Warboss: PowerKlaw, TwinLinked Shoota, Eavy Armor, Cybork Body. 105pts.
Big Mek: KFF, Eavy Armor. 90pts.
Lootas: x10. 150pts
'Ard Boyz: x20, x2 Rokkits, Nob w/Power Klaw. 255pts.
Shoota Boyz: x30, x3 Big Shootas, Nob w/Big Choppa. 210pts.
Slugga Boyz: x30, x3 Rokkits, Nob w/Power Klaw. 245pts.
DeffDread: x2 Big Shootas, Grot Riggers. 90pts.
Killa Kans: x2 w/ x2 Big Shootas, Grot Riggers. 90pts.
Killa Kans: x2 w/ x2 Rokkits, Grot Riggers. 110pts.
Big Guns: x3, x3 Zzap Guns, x3 Ammo Runts, x2 Extra Crew.
This actually puts me at 1450pts, so there's room to move. I was thinking about rolling in some Bikers (maybe 6), and maybe 2 squads of Trukk mounted orks. Possible flush out those Kan squads to 3 each, and probably more lootas.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

You've kind of confused the issue with your last post. What are you looking at getting for $150? Your first post says you're looking to get "the most outta the money" to build an "awesome" force, and your next post says you could put together a marine force with the money which would be a decent start.
If you're just looking for a decent start of an army for $150, I'd say pick up whatever deal you can find on Ebay. Dark Eldar can come up in fairly cheap lots at times, and seem to fit your theme of having all xeno armies.

SM would be your best go.
Tactical squads are about 10 bucks now days and with the upcoming rumored 5th ed. You should be able to score a good amount of the cheap Macragg box set tactical units.
Rhino are about 10 bucks as well.
Little glue, foam card, plastic card, and you could make some Drop pods real cheap.
Here would be your run down.
Three tactical squad macragg sets, 30 to 40 bucks
Tactical squad 30 bucks
Bit order heavy weapon and or assault guns, arms and such 10 to 20 bucks
Assault sqaud five men 20 bucks
Take the three guys you get from the tactical squad and just add jump packs. The three guys you save from your assault squad can be turned into guys that you need depending on what you want.
This is going to take awhile but you get the point and should be able to get an complet army up and running for the money your looking at.
HQ 100 to 150 points
Captin
Troops
Tactical squad 200
Drop pod
Tactical squad 200
Drop pod
Tactical squad 200
Drop pod
Tactical sqaud 200
Drop pod
Assault squad five men. Take one guy and give him a p fist, take two guys from your macragg set ie flamers and give them jump packs. This will give you five plus men with two flamers and a p fist.
dev squad with four missle launchers you got from your macragg set.
Done explain would take a bit and im not up for that. Hope you get the over all idea.
Assault sqauds five men

any good links on modeling your own drop pods, cuz I cant find any, and think thats a friggin awesome idea, but I'm not that great at freehand modelling (i.e. the 'pods I would make would look like sh!t and never be allowed in games)

I would look at some of the pics and or do a few searches and see what you come up with. You should see some of the drop pods in game via GT and such on the sites. Most of the people I know have taken canns and added some detail to it with foam card. IE the wing part of the drop pod. Then little putty and some plastic card for detail if you can draw or trace you can do plastic card. 1mm card with your traced out drawing, cut out and then glued to the pod.

For $150 you can get 1248pts of Tyranids by purchasing 2 Battleforce boxes on sale of the internet...
Breakdown...
Warriors (x3) (ES:BS, TS, EC) (ScyTals, x2 Deathspitter, x1 VenCan)
Warriors (x3) (ES:BS, TS, EC) (ScyTals, x2 Deathspitter, x1 VenCan)
Genestealers (x8) (EC)
Genestealers (x8) (EC)
Termagants (x16)
Hormagaunts (x16)
Rippers (x3)
Rippers (x3)
Carnifex (ES:BS, ExtC, Reniforced Chitin) (VenCan, Barbed Strnglr)
Carnifex (ES:BS, ExtC, Reniforced Chitin) (VenCan, Barbed Strnglr)
It may not win any tourneys but it is certainly a decent force... for another $35 you can add a Hive Tyrant and then you'd really have something going in the 1500pt range which would not be bad at all.

So hey,
what's the general opinion of that Tyranid idea? It sounds like it could work out pretty decently.
I was actually thinking of playing the 'nids, just because they seem to be pretty unstoppable if used properly.
Any other opinions are welcome!

Yeah problem is most of the 90$ army boxes span the models in the range.... which means little to no direction. The only thing I have seen as viable with the army boxes is necrons... buy 2 boxes and a lord and voila insta army ready to boringly go! In the case of the nids yeah you get a decent size force but the army doesnt know what it wants to be. If you want zilla you are just plain screwed, 2 carni's just aint enough. If you want a swarm then you are also screwed as 32 gaunts and 16 GS are going to suck it pretty quick. But it can also depend on how much you eventually plan on dumping into the army you are starting. If you plan on this being a big investment then nids could work if you are willing to take a few butt kicking until you have the money to really apply the style you are going for. Other then that I could suggest guard... they are still new to me, but the 90$ box has all useful things you need: a big tank, heavy weapons, and 20 victims... err infantry. Save just a wee bit more then that 150 and you could net 2 of those babies, then grab a command, an officer for a platoon, and a chimera for an armored fist squad... would take you a bit over yer goal, but I am sure through Ebay or Warstore you could pull it off for only a pinch over 150. After that I have no clue though that puts you about on par with me for IG building lol.

My suggestion would be to save another $50 to $100 and REALLY get a good collection but, because I'm such a kind and generous person (read: had a bunch of free time), I decided to do a little digging for you.
For under $150, you can get a GREAT start to a Space Marine army.
: auses for detractors to purposefully misspell Space Marines, say, "HURR" and look otherwise idiotic::
Okay.
So, I'll list a bunch of "good stuff" I found and suggest a build that I just kind of threw together.
I found all of these at www.chaosorc.com.
He's a great guy. Fair and honest and ships fairly fast.
$26.25 New Tac squad
$26.25 New Dev squad
$30.00 New Predator
$22.50 New Rhino
$36.00 New Razorback Squad (1 tank & 5 SM's)
$11.25 New SM Commander box
$37.50 OOP Plastic Termie Squad
$37.50 NEW Plastic Termie Close Combat squad
$18.75 New Assault Squad (5 models)
$6.50 Chaplain blister
$6.50 OOP Termie Chaplain
For $145.25, I threw together the following kits which could be the start of a decent force.
$26.25 New Tac squad (x2)
$26.25 New Dev squad
$30.00 New Predator
$11.25 New SM Commander box
$18.75 New Assault Squad (5 models)
$6.50 Chaplain blister
You have 1 "Commander" HQ (build to suit)
You have 2 Heavies - Build the Pred to suit
(Can't "focus" the Dev's, but could possibly trade bits for bits online here or @ bartertown to get 4 of the same type of heavy if you wanted to)
There are 2 Troop Choices
You have a Fast Attack choice and, if you can buy or trade for a jump pack (or have friends who will let you proxy), you can run the 2nd HQ (Chaplain) with the Assault squad.
Now, like I said, these choices can (and probably will) be picked to pieces. I just wanted to give you an idea of your options.
Good luck.
-- I'd imagine you could do something similar with Chaos, if you wanted to.

There is a way he can get a decent (real GW models) army for $150 without resorting to ebay :
Wait for the 5th ed boxed set and get 2 of them, then trade the orks for more marines.
Since each box set comes with :
1– Space Marine Commander (full sprue)
1– Space Marine Tactical Squad
1– Space Marine Terminator Squad
1– Space Marine Dreadnought
1– Ork Warboss
2– Ork Boyz Mobs
1– Ork Nob Mob
3– Death Koptas
He'd end up with too many terminators and dreadnoughts, but he could probably trade those for other things.
*edit*
Or, he could trade the orks and tactical marines for more terminators and dreadnoughts, and create a Deathwing army.

Too many terminators and dreadnoughts? Explain how.
It's certainly not due to an inability to field, as 10 Terminators and 2 Dreadnoughts could just be your Elites choices.
Hell, if they keep the Termie Command Squads, that could just be part of the HQ!

That's a good point, MinMax. I guess some people are worried about Codex: Space Marine turning out exactly like Codex: Dark Angels or Codex: Blood Angels where Terminators only get fielded in squads of five. For the generic book I'd expect something more like Chaos Terminators, except in the Combat Squad mold: five Terminators, one of which that can take a Heavy Weapon, that can be upgraded with five more and allows a second Heavy Weapon. I expect this because it'll sell extra boxes of Terminators to all those people that min-max their Terminator Heavy Weapon.
Now if only they'd sanction Mortis Dreadnoughts and Dreadnought squadrons...

It won't be the best army in the world, but it'll be a start.
I thought of that earlier, but I was going more with the "What could he get RIGHT NOW" idea.
Of course, if he bought them from chaosorc or thewarstore, the could get 3 boxes with funds to spare!
That's TWO armies for $150.

Hey, a quick question-
You mentioned the supposed contents of the new edition box set. Does anyone happen to have squad numbers? The marine units seem pretty straight forward
10 man tactical, 5 man terminator as it usually is.
What about the orky aspect of the box?
How many in each Boyz mob and Nobz Mob?
Also,
I want to thank everyone for their feedback, it's been helpful.
Im thinking of just adding to the orks I have (which is always the more sensible move. Add to existing, instead of starting new).
Thanks again!
