By giving the Ven Dread a Las and Missile Launcher, you can make use of Tank Hunter, is my guess.

Tank hunters and the general benefits of venerable seem to make a fire support dread much more reliable in it's role, and consequently a "good time." Probably still sub-par competition wise, but a neat unit that can sit in cover and be pretty tough to totally kill.
