That marble effect looks fantastic . It's going to look really striking with the rest of the armor painted the same way.

Oh man, that marble effect is amazing. Got any tips on how to make it look so good?

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

So the greyish, weathered tones? I think a whole army in marble would be epic. Either the metals as marble or the armor. I may have to do a few models like that for fun and SCIENCE!

Thx again everyone.
@hk1x1 - sure hoping so!!

@Bottle - ehhmm....get back to me once I've done a little more!! Havent done this effect before so still kinda feeling my way through it. Simple palette and don't overdo it so far. Very very thinned paints too

@LeCacty - This guy is a FreeBlade so onlly he is getting the marble. Not sure if marble would work too well on a whole admech army....not sure if it really fits them. but a force of Grey Knights might look really cool with it. SoB force also

Slow to the party but the knight is coming together really well. I think the mix of metals on the skeleton looks really well as previously said. Adds an additional level of detail under the armour.

The marble effect looks great on the head. Looking forward to seeing it on the larger sections. Now your idea of a marble armour on SoB is a very interesting idea.....

That marble does look stunning, it will look doubly excellent on the larger shoulder and shin plates. I do not envy the time it will take to do it though as I assume it takes a while. To that end how long did the face plate take and what processes are involved? Thanks.

Lot of planning an thinking before i did the metals. There's so much detail and workings in the skeleton of the beast, reackined it deserved some decent treatment too.
Always thought some marbled pauldrons would suit the SoB pretty well. Nice cold white marble maybe.
I thought the marble would take much longer than it did. It wasnt the quickest thing to do but still not so long that it becomes a task. All in all, I think the two pieces I did above took maybe 45 mins. As it was the first time I was going pretty slow so hopefully as I get better at it, it'll come a little quicker. Hope so - I laid out all the plates and armour panels that need to be done and ......welll......there's a lot!!

I was shocked by the amount too with my Knight, and considering you have magnetised him you have a good few more armour plates to paint. Glad to hear that it was not too painful a process, the metals certainly look like a labour of love too.Good luck with the rest of the painting.

GW should give you commission as I want to buy another Knight now

Home from work figured I'd get a start on a few more armour panels. Still feeling my way through this marble effect so I'll leave the biggest plates till last. First couple of base coats done on the leg plates done for now.

Don't suppose you fancy doing a step-by-step on one or two of those plates, do you? Very interested to see the process.

No worries if you don't have the time/setup, though.

I will indeed do one Para.....later.....when I'm actually 100% sure what it is I'm actually doing!!!! Think I have it pretty much sorted...in my head....now....ish!! I'll do a wee step by step when I get to the shoulder plates as they're nice and big (hopefully) will be easier to show on

Cool, thanks! I know there was something in my to-do pile that I wanted to play with marble effects on, but I can't think for the life of my what it is now... Still, looking forward to the tutorial, at least I can reference it when I do remember!

I am putting the Robute Guilliman primarch from forgeworld together and would love a marble tutorial to rip off and use on the base. Eagerly awaiting some advice.

Quick n crappy WiP shot of the latest marble progress. Base coats, wet on wet streaking, sponging and now seam lines pencilled in. Looks pretty dark at the mo but it all gets lightened up after the seam lines are finished.

That looks awfully similar to one of the Freeblade Knights, The White Warden. Is that where you got the idea from for this scheme?

The White Warden? Nope. Doing a kinda Greek scheme for this guy, hence the marble. His personal symbol will be a trident and helmet with laurels. Balls - gonna have to go and google this warden chap now

.....
.....

oh cocksnot - he has a helmet too. Well, not changing my plans now ><

I prefer you're Jan. The marble looks a bit dirties and more realistic on yours. <3

Cheers LeC. It will be lightened up with the final layers but the darker veins and staining will show through. Need that subtle variety of 'other' colours to make it look .....well....marble-y!!

Next step done. All the pencilled seam lines are traced over with seraphim sepia and then where they intersect or have a strong point are gone over again with thinned dark brown mixed with sepia. Phew. S7 you really came into your own there!! Next comes the lightening so they'll look like the mask and crown plate. Think I'll leave that till tomoro. 3 hours of fine line work is enough for tonight lol

Marble is coming along. Hopefully get it finished up (well the plates that I've started so far) this weekend. Realised I've totally lost the page I did all design doodles for the knight on so had to start over on another page. It's fine though as kinda changed a few ideas around in the interim. Anyhow - here's what's gonna be coming once I get to move onto decorating the big fella

Interesting stuff, the Grecian look should suit the marble a lot, and I love that split helm design for the banner! Any colours in mind? I think a nice jet black would work for the leaf patterns, maybe a dark brown?
