Totally missed that last one! Damn it's camouflaged. Something like that oddly enough doesn't throw out the colour theory by the way. The colours chosen don't wreck the model and they're used so sparingly that the overall colour scheme is left in tact.

I've not been around because I've been working on the final coursework for the masters. But, naturally, I've been laid low during the past few weeks by health issues, so I did some painting to try and break it up. Nothing on the Dark Eldar, I'm afraid, but I've painted an officer and two command squad veterans for the Mantis Warriors, as well as several terminators. Haven't photographed everything properly, but here's what I have so far.
Officer:
WIP shots before I painted her head.
Not entirely pleased with the way her face came out. I'm not great at faces at the best of times, and I suspect this had either a casting flaw or there was an undercoat issue. Or I suck. At any rate, she passes the three-foot test, so it's fine.
Here she is in black and white. Looks much better, right? #blanchitsu
Veterans:
Veteran One. Photos are a bit blurry; sorry.
Veteran Two.
Terminators:
The second terminator I've ever painted. He hasn't had any edge highlighting here and I don't think I'd finished the blacks yet, but I think the freehand Tyrant's Star turned out okay.
WIP photo of the fourth terminator in the squad, still on my desk. As you can see, doing something a bit different with the leg of this one...
I don't have photos of the other terminators in the squad, but you can see a 12-second video of the first terminator I ever done painted right here.
Anyway, one last piece of assessment to go. Motivation: sluggish. Music: chillwave. Let's go.

Bummer to hear about health problems, but your Mantis Warriors look great!
Good luck on the Masters assessment. I ducked out of full time education after my bachelors, but I can imagine the pain

AC Terminator looks sweet. Between the markings on the leg and the decoration on the cannon he has a sort of tribal feel.

Thanks! He doesn't have a li'l shield, so I wanted to give him some other indication of how he earned his Crux.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your continual support. I got an Instagram a little while ago, mostly but not entirely to post miniatures. https://www.instagram.com/imago_apis/ You'll also get to see pictures of my dumb face & some of my archival work. I think I actually found you there a while ago - your Raiders are distinctive. Automatically Appended Next Post: redeem / purify One marine left of my 'two squads of marines from chapters that are uncommon or I think are neat or provide a weird painting challenge or a combination of these reasons'. Currently the squads are: Squad One: Sergeant: Astral Claws Flamer: Tiger Claws Rocket launcher: Angels Sanguine Bolters: White Eagles, Sons of Malice, Celestial Lions, Angels of Redemption, Lamenters, Executioners, Daughters of Persephone. Squad Two: Sergeant: Marines Errant Flamer: Rainbow Warriors Rocket launcher: [unpainted] Bolters: Spears of the Emperor, Unicorns, Emperor's Fools, Angels Doloros, Scythes of the Emperor, Zvezdnyye Rusalki, Little Sisters of Purification Any guesses what chapter I have planned for the rocket launcher for the second squad? Or how I've (very roughly, to be fair) grouped the two? It's a bit of an unfair question, because five of the represented chapters are homebrew, but this chap isn't, so give it a go, eh lads?

Thank you, everyone! The Fiend was surprisingly fun to paint. The Finecast actually worked for the model - most of the flash came away very cleanly and the flexibility in the tail was realy useful.
On the other hand, I've temporarily shelved the Incubi after finding that their blades were bent and the flash on them was... significant. Sigh.
At the moment, I'm finally working on some more jetbikes. I'm really not enjoying painting these guys very much, so I'm procrastinating by doing some freehand:
Testing on some paper.
Designs on the left are runes from Warhammer Fantasy; on the right are some eye icons for the Cult of Splintered Sight. At least, hopefully.
In comparison with the first jetbike, you can see that I'm also breaking up the orange a bit. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks! This is where they are today. You can see that I'm procrastinating from highlighting the orange, which is why the jetbikes are a bit muddy looking.
On the left bike you can see the Eltharin runes Sethai (flight, wind, cry in the far mountains) and Varour (aggression, lightning, downfall).
Its rider bears the rune Sendai on his jacket (dedication, sacrifice, resentment).
The eye symbols are the sign of the Cult of Splintered Sight, or at least the best freehand I can do to that effect. See how we go!

Here are the three friends from 1998 (except for the head and knife additions), including the one painted a few months back. I think they turned out okay as long as you don't look too closely.
While I didn't intend to make any of the jetbikers Arena Champions, it is a happy coincidence that Mister Knifey can step into that role if they remain a compulsory part of the unit.

they look great man, the blue and orange complement each other nicely and while orange is tough to paint (I may have some experience in that department) it's a very nice colour that showcases your models beautifully on the tabletop. That bit of freehand really gives these guys the extra flair that DE deserve. I dig them.

Really liking how the white masks are looking on the Dark Eldar. Might I suggest a coat of varnish of just the masks? Make them nice and reflective like they were glass perhaps.

Your orange looks so good, 'Faith. I am going for a different thing here, but yours is seriously amazing. Those War Walkers alone (although there are SO MANY; how tedious was that?).
Thanks for the kind words, anyway. I'm not super comfortable with freehand stuff, but I do want to keep pushing back at what I'm comfortable with, so we'll see how we get on.

Thanks, Thousandeyes! I'm not going for a glass look, I don't think, just a blank-faced one. I do see a lot of great glass Trueborn though, so it is really tempting.

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear it's paying off.
I felt a bit restless tonight, but I painted a couple Death Guard as a break from all that orange. Not sure what is next for the Dark Eldar, but I did undercoat two 'new' jetbikes...

Forgot to crop those second two photos but it's definitely past my bedtime, so eh. Thanks again for the support, guys!
