What flyers are a good buy in Apoc? Since most cost 100-400$ from forgeworld, and then some of them are boatloads of points, are they really that effective in game?

the eldar nightwing interceptor is amazing but appart from that the other flyers (like a lot of things in apoc) are mostly just fun. really you can scratch build, without too much effort, most of the flyers in apoc, which is a better idea then buying the FW models unless you have loads of disposible income. flyers are fun to play with but not worth the price FW charges for them. just make your own.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Several of the fliers are kitted out to take out other fliers, so keep in mind the roles of each. Naturally, most are divided into "bomber" and "fighter" types. The fighters carry AA autocannons or equivalent, and the bombers drop....bombs.

And others perform multiple roles, like the thunderhawk and a few Eldar ones.

Any flier that can be kitted with either missiles or bombs can perform multiple roles during the same battle with ease. Taking a flyer also serves as good insurance against enemy fliers, especially if your army is light on pintle weapons and AA options. Otherwise, you might have to waste a lot of shooting on taking out, say, a Thunderbolt wreaking havoc upon your armor.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Big games I find rarely go more than 4 turns unless you have a weekend to play. The easiest way to get the most out of them I think is vehicle-kill. I use a thunderhawk and that has some great troop-kill ability but it takes a while to kill enough troops to pay for itself. But in general, fliers I think have decent survivability, specialized weaponry and a bit of novelty that makes everyone want to down it. It might not do a lot but it will draw fire.

Valkyries FTW! I won MVP at my last apoc game(got a B-blade because of it!) with my hardened vet valk combo. The valk can count as a scoring unit the last turn of the game wich is awesome. Not to mention its cool embark/disembark rules. The look on their generals face was priceless. 4vet squad/valk combos flying in last turn(only got in 3 turns), dropping of 3flamerspersquad goodness. the vets toasted everything, valks shot infantry to bits, allowing me to contest a vital objective and capture a reg objective. We won the game because of that move!

All I have to say is Hellstorm Template. Oh and there's nothing quite like watching a fighta bomma shoot a tunderbolt out of the sky.

Well, unmatched mobility, for one.

Last Apoc game we played, we had a green tide in reserve, and the player had flank march. So, we had a hellblade positioned to kill their disruptor beacon if the basilisk fire proved ineffective (which it did of course). Next turn, the green tide poured in, and did quite a number on their enemy's backside. No other unit could have gotten there reliably due to the beacon.

Flyers have been completely useless in any games I've played, either inflicting no damage to things before getting shot down, or killing things that got back up, god bless necrons and res orbs.

The thing with them I've found is, for them to be any use they need to be close to the enemies models, and therefore their big guns, which will make them pay.

Of course it could just be my friend isn't very good with them...
