will i have any practical use for 30 nobs in my ork army? i've got the models, (30 black orks they're big enough to be nobs) but i dont know if i should play them as nobs or just settle for 'ard boys? is there such a thing as too many orks?

No such thing as too many Orks, but there is such a thing as too many Nobs. IMO, having any Nobs that aren't in a squad of normal boys constitutes "too many Nobs." They are just not very good at all. 'Ard Boys would be a better bet, though they're still not that great (they die just as easily as the other boys to HB fire).

You could certainly run the nob army (2 warbosses, 2 nob units as troops, etc...) but it would be expensive. Just as a personal preference, I don't like the black ork models as nobs, they just look too much like fantasy.

If you are going to use them as nobz then you should give them power claws, because that's the only way to make them worth your while, however as others have said, it's more point efficient to throw them in with regular boyz who can soak up fire for less points.

if you like nobs, you could covert 9 or 10 into flash gitz...

they're nobs with heavy armor and a decent gun (I use the shootier and more dakka upgrades)
that gives me assault 2, 24'' str. 6 guns with d6 ap

gives you a 50% chance of taking away the marines save and a 33% for termies

they are decent in hand to hand, and are just fun to play

give them a pain boy and you have 4+ heavy armor and 4+ feel no pain... takes A LOT of shooting to take them down...

haven't run big squads of nobs yet... but still have visions of 9 nobs + painboy in heavy armor, cybork, with 4 or 5 power klaws...
