Question for everyone....

So when starting the game and deploying if my opponenet puts down Heavy Support first and then my turn i have no heavy support do i deploy next in the list a troop choice or do i wait til the opponent has deployed all his heavies? If i had an all elite, hq and fast attack list would i wait til he has deployed all his heavy and troops til i deploy?

You put one down, he puts one down, back and forth. Just cause you have no Heavys does not mean you get to skip a deployment. The sequence just tells you waht order you put your units down.

"When deploying, players alternate placing units..." pg 81

Regardless of whether they are the same type (Heavy, Elite, Troop), you alternate placing your units. Therefore, if your opponent has 3 Heavies and you have 1, then deployment should go as follows:

He places 1st Heavy unit
You place 1st Heavy unit
He places 2nd Heavy unit
You place 1st Troop unit
He places 3rd Heavy unit
You place 2nd Troop unit

He deploys, you deploy.

If you don't have the FO type, you just deploy whatever is next.

My group's decided to switch to taking turns deploying entire armies - the army that deploys first takes the first turn.

It's also Warmachine, but I'll second Stelek's request. How's that working out?

Stelek: I would have thought a genius such as yourself could figure out whether I enjoy that method of deployment.

Ozymandias: It's working out well. It makes set-up faster, for one thing. It definitely fits better with the turn aesthetic of Warhammer.

It also helps in eliminating some of the dread of getting absolutely obliterated if you don't win the turn roll. Places more of the emphasis on tactical abilities than getting a lucky roll for the first turn or two.

I guess you could call them wierd. I call them excellent. The whole notion of placing an entire army at a time not only speeds things up but at the same time you know who will be getting the first turn and can deploy accordingly. This fixes a big gripe with 40k at the moment which is the first turn win (I've literally seen a game won on the first shooting phase of a game) and the issue that 40k has with losing a substantial part of your army to fire before it gets a chance to do anything.

Epic Fail
