I've been trying to paint a new Bad Moon army. I've got about 500 pts primed Black and I've been base coating Illayden Brown and then Bad Moon Yellow painting isn't going well. After a few coats it's not coming out smooth or clean. I'm just not happy with it. I have the option of just forgetting Bad Moons and making up my own Freebooters with my own colors. Or I could just reprime white but that's probably not going to look right. Not sure what to do. I'm open for any suggestions. I did like the idea of the Bad Moons and having that army on the field but I also want a well painted army.

Get yourself a bottle of Citadel foundation Iyanden Darksun. This will solve all of your yellow coverage problems. Normal yellow paints don't cover very well, but this foundation stuff is amazing.

Moral of the story is to always do a test model first.

I'd also suggest a white basecoat. From there, you will just have to deal with a lot of layers, but it'll be less than over black.

Also, don't lose faith if it doesn't look great immediately. A lot of the thing spots will be in places you're going to highlight over anyway (ie. raised areas).

Commissar: Something you can do is spot-coat the parts that you want to paint yellow with white first, over the black base coat.

yeah I'd use the iyandan darksun as a basecoat over either white or black (foundation covers well over either) then go with bad moon yellow, watered down 50:50
plan on doing atleast 2 coats if you want a bright yellow. though frankly iyandin looks good by itself
