I've decided to try stepping outside of my normal powergaming ways and build an army for a change around a story line and by actually taking time to convert more than just key pieces. If you ever saw my Black Cross Space Marines, you'd understand.

General: Lord Hirke Battlecairn, wielding his magical hammer 'Linebreaker' (+2 STR) and protected by his armor 'Heart Keeper' (2 Runes of Iron, 1 Rune of Stone) and the Talisman 'Magi Bane' (3 Runes of Warding)

He is escorted by the regiment known as Battlecairn's Best, led by the intrepid Tnel Battleblade (18 Iron Breakers + 1 Veteran, Musician, Standard Bearer). Being the anchor of the Clan's battleline, Battlecairn's Best fight under the standard of 'Unbreakable Rock' (Rune of Battle, Rune of Stoicism)

The Battle Line

Battlehand's Beast Smashers, led by Bihir Battlehand (18 Longbeards + 1 Veteran, Musician, Standard Bearer, Great Weapons). Since few dwarves reach the status of Longbeard, the dwarves of this regiment consider themselves especially blessed and fight under the standard of 'Reorx's Ward' (2x Rune of Sanctuary)

Shalecutter's Soul Reapers, led by Kagale Shalecutter (18 Warriors + 1 Veteran, Musician, Standard Bearer, Great Weapons).

Rediron's Red Rippers, led by Virde Rediron (19 Warriors + 1 Veteran, Musician, Standard Bearer, Great Weapons).

Darkminer's Death Dealers, led by Grefm Darkminer (10 Rangers, Crossbow, Great Weapon, Musician, Standard Bearer).

The Artillery

Hell Spinner, commanded by Aigo Boltmaker (Bolt Thrower, Flakkson's Rune of Seeking, Rune of Burning, Rune of Penetrating).

Reaper's Scythe, commanded by Dali Grimforge (Bolt Thrower, 2x Rune of Penetrating)

The Clerics

Nrab Spiritsmasher (Runesmith, Master Rune of Spell Binding, 1x Rune of Spellbreaking)

Kdod Godquartz (Runesmith, 3x Rune of Spellbreaking)

Works out exactly 2000 points, 100 dwarves, and 6 dispel dice in the pool. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike K.

*Bump* Come on, someone has to have an opinion on this list. I've never played dwarves and really need some feedback on whether or not this list is viable.

Thanks,

Hammerers are better than GW Longbeards every day, make them your lords unit and they become immune to fear and terror, combine with their stubborn and the Lord's leadership - nice! And a unit of 19 with shields is cheaper than the longbeards!

The setup on your lord is not ideal and with this many units you really should have a BSB

Hope that helps

actually, if you read the Rule Book under stubborn, just because the lord is in the unit, doesn't mean he is stubborn. when a break test comes along, you can either use the lords modified Ld, or the hammerers stuborn Ld. but an unmodified Ld of 9 is nothing to complain about.

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who am I sir? a UTAH MAN am I. A UTAH MAN sir, I will be till I die.

KI-YI

Were up to snuff, we never bluff were game for any fuss, no other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we'll fight for dear old Crimson for a UTAH MAN AM I!!

Yeah I agree you may want to switch your longbeards out for a unit of hammerers since they are cheaper and are stubborn even without your lord, then maybe make one of the warrior units into a slightly smaller longbeard unit, if you really want longbeards. Not sure how I feel about the two bolt throwers having so many runes especially without engineers increaseing their BS. Maybe get three bolt thorwers instead of the two rune heavy ones. Probably a good diea to keep one wth a penetration rune though so that you can one shot chariots.

Note: D+ can take over 12 hours of driving in Canada. It's no small task here.

Ok, I'll make the switch from Longbeards to Hammerers. I apologize for not making it clear, but both bolt throwers already have engineers. I'm also looking for a way to cut enough points to put the BSB in.

What would be a better set up for the Lord? Do I need to include the Rune of Courage to make the Hammerers immune to fear and terror? I'm waiting for my army book to come in the mail. Getting GW to send stuff to Korea is a surprisingly complicated process.

No, you do not need to Rune of Courage to make them immune to fear and terror if you have the lord join the unit. His royal blood special rule combines with their bodyguards special rule to make them immune to fear and terror.

Thanks Walrus. Ok, here is the revised list. I have about 20 points left and would love to hear some suggestions on how to better kit out the Lord.

Thanks for the help,
Mike K.

Maybe take the Flakson's off of the hellspinner. Then you would have 35 points left, which could help out somewhere else, maybe another banner of stoicism or battle somewhere? Also, I really REALLY dislike rangers, maybe take miners instead? I mean: If they're gonna shoot, you might aswell put another unit of quarrelers, without the +3 from ranger and great weapon, which nets you 30 more points= 65, then take off the musician and standard bearer, 80 points. You can now take a line of 10 quarrelers + 7 miners, which is a decent minimum to go cause mayhem in the back or claim tablequarters.
