I was flipping through my BT Codex last night, and was thinking of a play style I usually don't utilize. I put this list together with a "mixed approach" in mind, but am unsure how it would do in a competitive game. Granted, it will likely only go up against Necrons, Tau, GK DH, and Chaos Marines, since there are no 1500 point tourneys to speak of in my area, but I'd still like to make it a decent all-comers list.

Comments and critique welcome.

BT 1500 Points Army List

HEADQUARTERS

MARSHAL w/ Jump Pack, Combat Shield, HOA, Frags, BP, Power Sword

MARSHAL w/ Jump Pack, Combat Shield, HOA, Frags, BP, Power Sword

EMPEROR'S CHAMPION w/ "Abhor the Witch"

TROOPS

CRUSADER SQUAD (10) w/ PF, Meltagun
DROP POD DEDICATED TRANSPORT

CRUSADER SQUAD (10) w/ PF, Meltagun
DROP POD DEDICATED TRANSPORT

CRUSADER SQUAD (8) w/ Lascannon, Plasma Gun

CRUSADER SQUAD (8) w/ Lascannon, Plasma Gun

FAST ATTACK

ASSAULT SQUAD (10) w/ PF, 2 Plasma Pistols

ASSAULT SQUAD (10) w/ PF, 2 Plasma Pistols

* * * * *

Totals in at 1492 Points. The Marshals would roll with the Assault Marines, who would fly up under cover from the two Las/Plas Crusader Squads. The Drop Pod squads would be there more to take fire and pressure my opponent than to actually do any damage.

Some problems I see off the bat with this list are that I don't really need the Plasma Pistols in the Assault Squads, nor do I really need the 3 extra Marines and the Plasma Gun in each of the shooty squads. If I wanted to make this a hardcore list, I'd change that up, but for the time being I'm working in the direction of what I plan to own as full squads.

I think with 42 Marines zooming in on a position, my opponent is going to feel the pressure. The Lascannons are reasonable antitank at this points level, IMHO, so I'm not worried about armor, barring a 5-Land Raider list.

What do you all think? Again, C&C appreciated.

This list freightens Necrons. I think having that much fast striking stuff will really give your opponent a hard time. Unless you are fighting demons...

Exactly what I was going to say.

That aside, why two Marshals? Why not make one of them a chappy (deluxe version) with the same kit (but with Litanies, Zeal direction and a better inv save) for a mere 5 pts more?

Also, I cannot agree that 2 lascannons is "reasonable antitank" at 1500 points. If you dropped the las/plas down to 5-man las (plas optional), you could take three squads instead of two. That would be almost okay.

Agreed, but I don't want to be purchasing more models than I already own. My disposable income is no longer in existence these days, but I think given the metagame of my area (low amounts of armor, high amounts of horde units) I should be okay. Nonetheless, here's a leaner version of the list:

Marshal w/ Jump Pack, Iron Halo, HOA, Frags, BP, Power Sword

Master of Sanctity w/ Jump Pack, HOA, BP, Frags

EC w/ "Abhor the Witch"

Crusader Squad (10) w/ PF, Meltagun
Drop Pod Dedicated Transport

Crusader Squad (10) w/ PF, Meltagun
Drop Pod Dedicated Transport

Crusader Squad (5) w/ Lascannon

Crusader Squad (5) w/ Lascannon

Assault Squad (10) w/ PF, Flamethrower

Assault Squad (10) w/ PF

1496 Points. I included the Flamethrower in the Marshal's squad to allow the Assault Squad to get a couple wounds in before the charge, compensating for the lack of rerolling to hit, as in the Chaplain's squad.

The Marshal has an Iron Halo now to match the Master of Sanctity in Invulnerable Saves, as well as Meltabombs to eat up additional points and act as a last-ditch backup. My primary anti-tank will of course be the two Lascannons, with Power Fists, Holy Orbs of Antioch and Meltaguns acting as a largely distributed anti-tank safety net.

This is a fast moving list. Drop pods and assault troops scare me. This will be interesting to fight

The BT jump pack troops don't get any BT rules, so if you don't give them Chaplains they aren't the same kind of threat.

I need at least one Marshal in the army if I want to give my two Lascannon 'Squads' Ld9 for target priority. Normally it would be 10, but due to the 'Kill Them All' rule, I have to take target priority checks at -1 Leadership. Then again, they should only be shooting at Vehicles, so if I were to take a second MoS, I wouldn't be in dire straights. My Lascannon teams would still pop tanks fairly reliably (granted, Mechanized would own me, but I play against such lists so rarely that it doesn't make any difference in my list-building).

I think that's a lot better. Thanks for the input regarding the Marshal, Stelek. It's become a bit of a reflex action to include one in my BT lists, given the fact that I usually make horde footslogger lists.

Oh great, your whole list just got faster and scarier. And with that much stuff coming at me that fast not even 15 destroyers will be able to run away forever. This list is going to give me an insanely hard time. I might experiment with Monoliths in this one.
