I picked up Soulstorm, and reading the manual they mention the Thirst.

Is this something THQ/relic invented for gameplay purposes?

I don't remember the thirst for souls part. Maybe I don't
read too gud.

I'm certain it's been there since DE were introduced. I have an old WD that goes on and on about how the only reason DE fight at all (other than for fun) is to get souls to devour--they need to consume them to stave off Slaanesh. I haven't seen a DE dex in ages, but it definitely has lots more of the same there.

Yea the DE kill all psykers and feed on souls of the living to prolong their lives. The kabals live for eons on end by feeding on souls of mortals. They kill psykers of their own kind to keep them from feeding slaanesh. This is their way of doing it. Eldar just use soul stones.

So...vampires.
