This Warhammer 25th Special High Elf Army set contains:

* 1 Lord on Dragon
* 1 White Lion Chariot
* 20 Phoenix Guard (with full command)
* 20 White Lions (with full command)

so I can see fielding 20 Phoenix Guard, but do people field blocks of White Lions?

yeah, i do. I like firelding big blocks because it helps with combat res. white lions may be resiliant against shooting, but their armour save drops to 5+ in hth. with only having one attack, they still get killed in combat, one way to counter this is to bring extra ranks. also, you could field 2 units of 10, if big blocks arn't your thing.

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who am I sir? a UTAH MAN am I. A UTAH MAN sir, I will be till I die.

KI-YI

Were up to snuff, we never bluff were game for any fuss, no other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we'll fight for dear old Crimson for a UTAH MAN AM I!!

GO UTES!!!!

Sweet! I haven't actually played against High Elves, so I
was basing my impressions of the army off of the army
book
and such.

Thanks!

Also, don't forget that WLs are very good for anchoring (and threatening) flanks in terrain since they are stubborn and ignore the forest movement penalty. That makes them able to hang out at the forest edge and threaten anything that wants to come near. 6x3 WLs is expensive, but nice. I like 6-7x2 with Lion Standard (fear is the bane of stubborn troops) as a flanker.

most unfortunately for me, I've already got 20 phoenix guard and 20 white lions :( I've got Imrik, which I guess I'll have to use as my Lord on a Dragon now that they got rid of him from the rules (What the heck's up with that, anyway?). Though I do want a new Lord on a Dragon...so cool...and a Dragon mage....ooooo....

"Sir, the enemy has us encircled!"

"Most excellent. They can't escape us now!"

Do notice that altough you may not want to run a large block of lions, you could easily split them to smaller detachment style units which can hold stuff down nicely due stubborn (altough the fear-outnumber-autobreaks may pose a problem).

They change the characters. You can't have Ranulf in your Space Wolves anymore either (afaik - haven't got the recent SW 'dex but I haven't seen him around for ages).
