Seems a little light on Lascannons for my taste and they are all concentrated in 2 small squads. My 1,000 point gaurd list has 6 lascannons. I would drop a few of the autocannons and take some extra lascannons. Also maybe switch and put the autocannons in the heavy weapon squads and the lascannons in the line squad.

Other than that one big issue the list looks good.

If I killed off the demo teams I could upgrade every auto cannon and change the las cannon teams to auto cannon.

On the other hand, don't the 9 Melta Guns help any?

Sure, when you get to 6" but that's not reliable. You can drop one Hardened Vets squad and upgrade 7 autocannons to Lascannons.

Does this sound better? I added a Las Cannon in each Platoon. Had to drop sharpshooters but now each squad has Close Order Drill which is free at least:

As I am still learning IG myself I cannot offer you the veterans advice but I can tell you that based on all the advice I have recently been given it looks rather good. I as well was originally going for a 2500 point build that I could scale down for smaller games but have come to the conclusion of screw that. I will never build an army over 2000 points, generally I am going to stick with 1500. I now know that building anything larger is just giving into my friends wanting to play more apocalypse games which SUCKS. But I digress, you and I seem to be going with similar builds, the only major differences are our heavies, and you taking SWS doctrine and I am taking Rough Riders. Once you do get your list nailed down and start really playing it please message me with things you are learning from your battles with your build and I will do the same if you wish. Anyway best luck to you!

Doc, I'd say your best bet is to put the anti-tank weapons (Lascannons) where they'll stick around as long as possible. Having 9 ablative wounds for each Lascannon is absolutely crucial to keeping them alive for later in the game when you must bring down that vehicle this turn.

The Autocannons shouldn't completely disappear - I field a pair of Fire Support Squads packing three each with Sharpshooters. With sharpshooters, I've used them to great effect against my brother's Tau on a regular basis.

The Lascannons are more important due to their ability to pop AV14. They also don't rely on incredibly short-ranged 2d6 armor penetration, which can be either avoided in the case of faster vehicles or ignored in the case of Monoliths (not that you'll face them that often, but in my case I do so on a more regular basis than most). Str9 should be spread throughout, not concentrated in 12 T3 5+ models.

I think if you took Lascannons in your Line Squads, and Autocannons in your Fire Support and Armored Fist Squads, you'd be in good shape. Enough Str7 ranged fire to scare off light skimmers and medium infantry, and enough Str9 to kill any armor you need to take down.

The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

How about switching the Vet Meltas to Plasmas?

I would definitely do that. Six Str7 shots are better than 4 Str8 shots when targeting anything except AV13+ under 13". They'll act as a fantastic charge deterrent for bigger stuff like TMCs and Terminators - they'll completely gut whatever they shoot at.

You'll be reliant on your gunline for anti-tank, which I have no experience with since most of my tank busting abilities come in the form of Deep Striking 4-Melta Sharpshooter Command Squads, but I think with so many Autocannons and Lascannons, you'll be fine.

Boom! Leman Russ Commander

I have found plasmas work better on vets rather then melta's because if you can't deepstrike, then you are stuck on the table with 12 inch weapons. I've found them with 24 inch range works better.

I like taking a HSO with standard, and then a JO with the Honorifica in a platoon command squad, and it allows two really hard command bubbles, one with a reroll.

Basilisks suck. Most enemies deploy within the indirect fire area, and then the front armor of the Basilisk is easily popped. Take Leman Russes, you get mobile firepower and they are hardcore.
