Just curious, even though gretchin have taken a downgrade from being a living shield to a living pile of uselessness how can they still be used effectively?
I was thinking that they still can be used to hold objectives and prevent the boyz from being charged (so that they can immediatly charge right back)

What's become of the rebel grot armies? Did everyone throw them in a fire to be melted down for their pewter? Can gretchen still be a viable (or at least humorous) battle force?

I would like to see if someone could come up with an all gretchin force that could at least beat...hmm...a noob squat army.

Wouldn't it be fun?

Theres the challenge.

Come on Vets, gimme some beardy wisdom!!!

Waaaaagh!!!!!!

hmmm... no real tactics advice, but on the grot army:
"What's that?"
"A Grot in mega armour!"
"A Grot? Why's he str 10?"
"Hes in mega armour, of course!"

big mek Kff
Big Mek Kff

6 units of 30 grots

3 units of three kanz with RL's

This army would work in some situations I think. Imagine the horde of grots hiding behind the iron grots wall with KFF giving them all a save!

Once I read the 5th edition PDF, the new ork army made much more sense. Troops are scoring units...down to the last man, or grot in this case. Have fun killing 30 grots who are sitting on the objective.

Epic Fail

In 5th ed they'll also give a 4+ cover save to units behind them, which allows you to change the Big Mek + KFF to a Big Mek + SAG (or another biker boss...)

it was much more reasonable in the last dex were slavers could take rokkits and pklaws.

I like, i like

i didn't think about killa kanz at all. obviously this would be a very specialized army and would take a skilled tactician to coordinate it properly, which is very unorky, but hey, whatcha gonna do?

Are you sure, from what i read if you shoot <through> your own troops the enemy gets a 4+ cover save? I don't believe they give your troops a 4+ save, but I might have miss read the pdf though.

Great suggestions keep em comin!

fluff-wise, why would an ork specialized in knowledge and herding of grots and squiggley beasts have a pk or rokkits though?
No argument that they are much less effective now, but I think the designers were trying to fix a fluffy issue and now everyone's pissed that they can't cheese a sleezy ork slave trader into a cage-fighting nob.

I find grots brilliant, they can hold things up for ages in combat, if your orks didn't want to charge something big and scary and are mostly ignored in battle so can do quite a lot suprisingly.

Onwards the green carpet!

How about 3 units of 3 kannons for the heavy slots in a grot army? fits the theme.

Kans are cooler and give some CC support. Also tank busing just as well.

The problem trying to make an all Gretchin force is that eventually you'll go mad and start seeing green everywhere you go, muttering stuff like 'please,no more kicking' and 'the tiny ones are coming...you don't beleive me?just you wait'

And who wants that to happen?
