A bit of a quick one, but I no longer own the dwarf book so was curious ...

I recently played against a new dwarf player and he had a pretty awesome BSB build, something like:

Thane - BSB, strollas, +1 CR within 12", 5+ rerollable ward

Is that legal? As in, dwarf BSB heroes can take banner runes as well as armor runes? And what are the points like on that build?

You can't take armor runes if you've taken a runic standard. However, there is a rune for your standard that provides a 5+ ward save. I believe (and I don't have the armybook in front of me) that the runes alone there cost about 185 points.

Also- the ward save is not re-rerollable on the runic standard.

Thanks Zeke, I had a feeling something might be up, even for dwarfs. I'll bring it up with him when I see him tomorrow, but who knows he might be on the level and I just don't know his army. For a guy who's played fantasy for 1 month he's really gotten the hang of it.

Also, that banner (that gives a 5+ ward) isn't the same one as the one that gives +1 CR in 12"....your buddy's definately cheating or hasn't read the rules properly.

He's almost legal;
A BSB with the MR of Stromni Redbeard (+1 CR), Stollas and rune of Guarding (5+ ward save). That's one heck of a BSB though, 205 points total. No room for another rune, and as an aside, I can't find any runes that allow rerolling ward saves. The armor rune of resistance only allows rerolling armor saves (and can't be taken by a thane with a runic banner).

Yea, dwarf standard bearers can take some CRAZY banners.

No points limits and the ability to mix and match stuff is prety nice.

Don't worry about the reroll, I talked to him and apparently I just misheard - OR was so amazed at the other banner runes that I added that in on top for some reason :S

A seriously nuts banner though, damn.
