Thanks for swinging by, I generally don't post lists without any prior playtesting xp, but I'm really excited to get my weekend games in.

Heres the approximate list. Points hazy, no book handy... I will play this for game one. maybe making adjustments as soon as game 2. I'm open for adjustments prior to game 1 too.

bloodthirster with strength and psychic save

lord of change naked maybe?

10ish demonettes with icon

10ish demonettes with icon

10ish horrors with bolt of change and icon

10ish horrors with bolt of change and icon

9 nurglings

soulgrinder with phlegm and tongue

soulgrinder with phlegm and tongue

I'm thinking the 'A' team will be 1 horror 1 demonette 1 nurgling and 2x soulgrinder

I'm really lamenting not taking any of the interesting elites and fast attacks. There are units in there that I like. I'll get to them. This list is really just designed for me to learn what is good and what is not good about the demon assault. the education i need that can only come from actually playing.

The 'plan' if you could call it that is to drop the first wave on as extreme of a flank as possible, shoot the most threatening units and block charges with the nurglings. Soulgrinders will hang back against people with fists, they'll drop a little more aggressively against the non-fisters.

If the 'B' team gets called in to be the first wave, I think the demonettes and horrors can be more aggressive, I doubt they'll take as many shots considering the double greater demon threat that also arrived. I'll try to use the bolts to pop transports as i arrive to bog people down.

The idea for the horrors is that large choppy units really can just eat charges from demons without being thinned out. I'll need to cut down some of the orks before i can go launching strength 3 demonettes into them. If bloodletters had the mobility they'd be a sure bet as their matchup against orks is so much better. maybe i don't need mobility, and maybe they go in. We'll see

If I'm against mech. the I'm hoping the railguns can drop some vehicles as early as possible. if i get the 'B' team I'll be hoping that the bloodthirster can be really active and productive in the tank hunting department.

I feel like I'm decently lash resistant, with the bloodthirster and the soulgrinders being unlashable, and it being a more shooty/fleety type of demon army.

But it all comes down to conjecture... if anyones got some play experience they wanna send my way I'm all ears... otherwise I'll tell you all what I learned on monday.

thanks

Bloodthirster with no khorne demons? For shame.

Greater demons are T6. Why shoot them with bolters when there are T3 and T4 demons running around?

The great catchall problem for the demon army is you can't make people have to choose target priority. It's already done for them.

I figure that space marines are going to have their bolters mixed in with their 'greater demon' killing guns. those units will have to choose. Same with orks, all their rokkits will be mixed in with their shootas. Anything static shooty I'll always attempt to mitigate through terrain. Lootas and rokkits and devastators might find their LOS blocked to the lesser demons.

Obviously I'll be unhappy if my A team doesn't make it. 2 lesser demon units and 2 greater demon units aren't my favorite 'shock and awe' force. but thats my plan for now.

As for you target priority comment. Thats really got me thinking. Have you played around with a T4 max army? Hmm... without looking at the book at all, take 2 or 3 gimmick heralds, screamers, fiends, flamers and tons of demonettes and bloodletters...

I wonder. maybe I knock something up with no MCs or grinders and try that for a game or two.

Thanks Stelek, was beginning to think everyone went home for the weekend already haha

Yeah, heralds have their use just remember they can be targeted. That's why the demons really have the no instant kill rule...

Tons of demons is IMO the better army.

NEW LIST

Masque

herald of Slaanesh with pavane

5x fiends of slaanesh

5x flamers

15x horrors with icon, bolt of tzeentch and the changeling

15x horrors with icon, and bolt of tzeentch

10x demonettes

10x demonettes

9x demonettes

9x demonettes

6x screamers

I'll attach the herald to one big demonette unit and Masque to the other big one. My demonic assault will depend primarily on how my opponent deploys. the 4 demonette units and the 2 horror units will definitely be split, and masque will certainly be in the demonic assault, but the fiends/flamers/screamers are flexible. Obviously 2 of them are going in the assault group. I'll pick the flamers and the screamers if i see a lot of tanks/transports, I'll pick the fiends and the flamers if its orks, or some other infantry based force.

I plan to deep strike the horrors first, I want them to be between 12-18" of a big unit, and i want them to be off on a flank. I'll decide where my big demonette unit with a herald is going based on their position. I may or may not need to pavane the unit that the horrors are about to shoot. Ideally, I'll shoot the unit with the horrors and then either pavane them out of assault range, or run the demonettes towards them. The other units that come (second demonette unit, screamers, flamers, or fiends) will DS a little further back, they are all fast enough to get into action next turn, and hopefully won't need to DS into a tricky spot.

This was the only list I could come up with where i wasn't afraid of orks. Not being afraid of them doesn't mean I plan to win every time, it just means I have a reasonable matchup against them (in theory). I fear mech lists. Depending on the armor value of the vehicles and whether or not they are skimmers, I may be having a hard time. mech guard will be tough but with side armor 10 chimeras and being able to hit them in close combat, i should be ok. Eldar are on the other end of the spectrum. I'm leaning pretty heavily on the bolts of tzeentch, the fiends and the screamers here. If i get a bit lucky, it can go ok, if i don't I'm going to get kited and picked apart. I'm feeling really good at taking on static shooty. Against gunline guard/shooty marines and possibly tau (sniper drone based, not fish of fury) I don't forsee much trouble coming from anything but dice.

But, I'm not posting for show and tell. If anyone wants to make any suggestions regarding the list, I'm all ears.

a note on bloodletters. i think they are really good. they just don't have the speed i'm going to need while I'm learning the army. When i get better at pinning my deep strikes and using icons aggressively, they'll make it in.

Thanks for reading. I'll post reports with it when I get a couple games in. (i'll get at least 3 by sunday)
