Im redoing my warhammer (40k and fantasy) persona(s) and am thinking seriously about getting rid of my eldar. while their troops are great i just cant take the toughness 3 for their cost. Right now im looking at either chaos (tzeench) or black templars. I want an army that can slog across the board laying down fire and if they get into HtH they can do some damage. any suggestions?

If you want to run marines on foot across the board you can't go wrong with BT. Grab crusade squads of 10 initiates and neophytes each (20 total) and start trukkin. What's not to like about the fact that passed morale tests make you move faster?

Tzeench troops just move to slowly at times and suck in HtH, being slow and purposful, also that and many of the Black Templar options look awsome

be aware that certain builds of eldar are probably the best lists around at the moment, and while chaos and BT are good, if you are looking for a more competitive army eldar if probably your best bet.

BT are a good army and what little i have seen of them has been good

Chaos is a lot of fun to play but only a few types of list will do you well competitively. specifically 1Ksons mow down MEQs like wheat to a scythe, are about as good as a marine in combat and dont die to standard anti-MEQ weapons, even if they do cost and arm and a leg.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

thanks for the advice so far guys...as an aside i am starting an ork fantasy army so i may be thinking orks across the board.

as far as eldar, i know the skimmer list is really good, but i hate 40k vehicles...and not to understate my bad luck at wargames enough but ive charged with 7 harlies and not gotten a single rend off, and my tanks (fully decked with vectored and holo) rarely last two rounds. i want troops that are sturdy (hence all the power armor) and slightly more versatile than most of the eldar units.

Won't Orks + Orcs be a little daunting to start at the same time? Just a thought.

Chaos is a good list. Be aware, though, that while Tzeentch is good, a pure Tzeentch force will not do well against all comers. You'll need some anti-horde capabilities to back up the TSons (who you shouldn't go overboard with).

If you want to foot slog with eldar, just take 10 wraithguard with a spirit seer warlock (they count as troops if you use that configuration). Keep a fortune farseer with them and you have a very hard to kill troop unit to march across the field. No biggy if they end up in hand to hand either. Take 2 squads like that, back them up with a foot slogging squad of qunis or two just to make sure you don't get stuck in hand to hand for too long and you are good to go.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

While i like wraithguard they are much more expensive than i would prefer to field them (as units of 10) I am not totally new just mostly...like if i were a model i would be assembled but not primed or painted. I have a tendency to field things with eldar i shouldnt (without getting into my whole army list) my troops are always pathfinders i have dire avengers with a farseer in a transport some harlies, scorps, wraithguard and a heavy weapons battery....thats normally my core. which isnt good, but they are the troops i prefer. as i said initially, my tanks rarely last a two turns and if it can miss it will miss. my games (with eldar) are always massacres, who is getting massacred is kind of up in the air though, if i roll at all "decent" like 50% hits on a 4+ ill decimate, but that almost never happens, i always fail my (pitiful) saves and generally speaking my opponents always get the best of the situation.

this being said i am not whining about it, i know it happens. but i want a force thats a little more stable and less extreme (one way or another) thanks for all the replies so far guys.
