I am interested in taking an WH Inquisitor in my next game with the Hammer of the witches psychic power. The question that I have is this: Do Tyranid Synapse creatures count as psykers, and would they be subject to the Perils of the Warp test invoked by the use of the Inquisitor Psychic power Hammer of the Witches? I do not have the Tyranid codex, so I am asking you guys before trying to do this in my game with no knowledge beforehand

Thanks!

Synapse creatures are psykers according to the Tyranid codex.

I don't know exactly what the hammer of the witches power does (don't got the codex on me right now) so I can't say for sure whether it specifically affects Tyranids, but they are indeed psykers.

Thank you yakface

The psychic power works as:

"Hammer of the Witches is a psychic power that is used in the Shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. It does not require line of sight to use and may be used if the Inquisitor is engaged in an assault. Roll a D6; this number of enemy psykers must pass a Leadership test or suffer a Perils of the Warp attack...starting with the psyker nearest the Inquisitor, and working outwards from him. If you roll a number greater than the number of enemy psykers on the table, each psyker is attacked once and the excess attacks are lost."

Oh, snap! I never even realized how useful this would be against 'Nids!

I dunno. Leadership 10 models with multiple wounds who aren't insta-killed by perils attacked really won't be *too* affected by this power.

I think you'll be lucky to cause a couple of wounds during the course of a game with this power.

All Synapse creatures are Pyskers, as the synapse ability is a psykic power. However, that power makes them automatically pass all leadership based tests, with the exception of Target Priority and tests to use psykic powers, Hammer of the Witches would have no effect any `Nids other than Zoanthropes without the Synapse power, and outside of 12" of anyone else who has it.

Gotta agree after getting home and actually reading the codices.

As Aduro pointed out, although Synapse creatures are pskers, one of the abilities granted by Synapse is that they are immune to all Leadership based tests except for target priority and psychic tests.

So no-go on the Hammer of the Witches vs. Tyranids.

try taking the anti psyker assasin, culexus i think its called, according to a GW staff member I spoke to they can cause carnage against tyranids or warlock squads in eldar lists. Something to do with an extra strength and assault stat onto a weapon or something...

Ya the wording there kinda sucks, had it said Psychic test then it would affect them right? since they auto pass LD tests not psychic tests right? I don't play against nids much but i seem to recall a zornthrope suffering a perils attack when i last played them.

That would have been Warp Blast, if you use the higher strength profile you've got to pass a psychic test. If you use the lower strength one it's treated like a regular weapon.
