Ive got a question.... Im running a few squads of 1k's as the main portion of my dakka in my army. problem being sometimes there are too slow to do very much but they really eat through space marines. my question is since they odviously would do the most damage in that >12" zone is it worth fielding rhinos for them? or is the blowing up special ability for the rhinos too risky?

I always play "b@llz to the wall" with my T-Sons.
I buy rhinos w/Dozer blades & put them behind cover.
On my turn 1, I shoot forward, release the payload & open up.
Granted, it takes it hits if you don't win turn 1, but there's always the cover to hope for.
I like to D-Possess the Rhinos, too, if I have the points.

I always get 100% to 150% (minimum) of my points back when I take 2+ squads (I go 10 man) like this.

YMMV.

Rhinos are great for Thousand Sons. At worst, you can still shot two AP3 bolters out the top to 24" even if it moves.

Getting to the right place to leverage your special weaponry is a must for these guys, as footslogging just won't cut it.

actually the guys in the rhino count as moving is if the vehicle moves, making them not able to shoot out of the top at 24" if the thing moved

nv, i'm dumb they have slow and purposeful don't they

Rhinos it is!!! Thanks for the feedback. Another question.... in my usual 2k list i roll with 2- 9man 1ks 1- 9 man plagues and 1- 9 man kids. Would another plague squad or another 1k squad be better. for a better insight i run some chosen x10 with 3 melta and 2 flamers 2 oblits and some termys with either a sorcerer or a tzeentch demon prince.

Two KSons squads should be enough. Give yourself some more tactical diversity. If you have points left over you might consider more Oblits or a Vindicator.

You know Dozer Blades have no effect if you move over 6" right?

Of everything that's been said in this thread, you felt the need to ask me THAT?
Who said the Rhinos will always move >6"???
YOU know that, with a 24" range and up to 24" separation in depolyment zones, the T-Sons won't usually NEED to move more than 6" to find a target. Right?

You said you start the Rhinos behind cover and then "shoot forward" on the first turn. If you're moving 6", you're not exactly "shooting forward," are you? snooggum's question seems fair to me.

You know that assuming ~24" separation and with 24" range, TSons don't need a Rhino at all to shoot first turn, right?

See, NOW who makes assumptions?
You make sure that you always correct people when they read more than what the book specifies, You should take your own advice when reading what other people say.

As "shooting forward" is not a specific term, there's no definition for it that you can safely assume, more than to assume it is a colorful way of saying "move forward inside the Rhino." It's rather relative, then. Huh?

While they don't NEED the rhino, you'll be kicking yourself for not having it when they roll snake-eyes for movement. In the Rhino it's a guaranteed 6" move, provided they don't get stuck. That would definitely qualify as "shooting forward" in comparison, IMO.

Alternatively, you can move over 6" and simply go around the terrain. As not all terrain is the same size, some terrain will actually be easy to get around while still managing to allow the unit to advance its' position.

Seriously. The way you ridicule people for not thinking the way you do, you certainly left some holes in your thought process, there.

Take a chill pill. All I'm saying is that when one reads "shoot forward," the natural assumption is that it's a speedier than usual action. It's part of the term's connotation. A sprinter leaving the starting blocks "shoots forward;" an old lady stepping out of her house does not. If you want to use idiomatic expressions in a non-idiomatic way, expect to be misunderstood.

I gotta admit, I had the exact same thought when I read "shoot forward." Obviously it's no biggie, but I read that as "move forward quickly"....

I guess the higher point would be that if you are explaining a tactical maneuver (and what you are describing is basically a tactical maneuver. a play from scrimmage, almost), you should try to use exact language. I don't mean you to mean MM, just anybody drawing up X's and O's.
