Hey guys, thanks for reading my thread (yet again). After talking with some buddies of mine they are seriously getting on me about doing templars, saying i would be much better off doing dark angels because i could have more variability in my army. If i do field templars I will invariably do a high (even moreso than normal) mobility army with a bunch of jump marines. Both the models look good but the edge goes to the templars. Is there a huge play difference in the armies? thanks again for the help guys.

If you like jump marines, go Blood Angels. Jump troops are not strong points for Black Templar (they can't zeal and the special weapon is limited to 1 base attack), nor for DA (their bikes and heavy support are their biggest strength imho).

You can paint the blood angels black if you'd like, there's even a successor chapter that is black iirc. Bits from Black Templar would look pretty nice on Blood angels too (although robes may not I guess).

snoogums: "Just because something is not relavant doesn't mean it goes away completely."

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

I apperciate the reply, im probably going to pick up the DA codex this weekend and take a look, i am thinking that i can always just use the BT bits for a DA army (not all of them but i do really like the look of the marines) at GTs and such if marines are kitted out to LOOK like bt but im playing a DA army do people freak out? as an aside, i may just play generic marines and use the best of the bits from both the armies.

Marines are marines. Paint your army up however you like and then just use the rules from whatever chapter fits best into the play style you like. In the case of jump packers, blood angles is the way to go. If you want foot slogging hand to handers, black templars. If you want bikes and/or terminators a pleanty then go with dark angles. If none of them really match up to what you want, use the basic marine codex (probably the most powerful of the bunch in it's current incarnation).

They key is to have an army you like the looks of. After that, you can just use whatever rules you decide you like the most. Working things out this way also saves you from problems when a codex gets rewritten.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

When 5th edition hits on July 11th, a new codex is soon to follow.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
