What is it? I've seen several people mention it, but I'm not sure what exactly it is.
On a related note, what is the typical build for a JSOD? Obviously it has a jaguar charm, but what else?

Dunno about the "Thane o Pain", I'd imagine it's just a thane with great weapon or some hitty runed up weapon. The Thane stats are pretty nice if he reaches combat so he's certainly no pushover if he actually has some points invested in combat gear. Regarding the saurus hero the build of course depends if you're running with oldblood or scar-vet. Scar-vet usually has light armor, shield and a great weapon and aura of quetzl. Regarding blessings Sotek and Quetzl work well (+1 a-o-c and +1 save).

The Thane o' Pain:
Typically has a rune axe with Master Rune of Swiftness, Rune of Cleaving, and Rune of Fury (so 4 Strength 5 attacks that Always Strike First). It also leaves you enough for a Rune of Stone, which with Gromril armor, and a shield gives you a nice 2+ save to go with your T5.
Not too shabby. Some people will put it (less the shield) on a BSB.

Except that you can't have any other runic items other than the standard on a BSB

General K-
That's not a true statement. If I take a runic standard, then I can't take any other runic items. But if I leave the standard un-runed (and still very useful) then I can take runic talismans, armor, whatever (just not a shield).

Nice combo. Particularly on a BSB.

For the BSB I generally leave off the ASF rune and give him the 1+ Armor save rune since otherwise I find that he can be taken out.

Mine is usually:
Runed GW w/ +1 Attack, +1 to hit
Rune of Stone
4 str 6 attacks that hit on 2's against most RnF.

As soon as you apply runes to a weapon they cease to benefit from the properties intrinsic to that weapon. So that great weapon doesn't give you +2 str. If it did you'd see alot more GWs with the ASF rune and a couple runes of fury.

I'm sure by "runed GW" he means a GW with Kragg's rune.

I've been leaning more towards the Tag Teamed approach.
Thane
BSB
Oath Stone
MR of Gromril (1+save can't be modified), MR of Spite (4+ward)
Lord
2xrune of Iron (5+ ward), rune of Fury, MR of Alaric the Mad, rune of cleaving (so 5 Str 5 attacks that ignore armour)
Stick them ina unit of 18 Ironbreakers, with the Rune of Stoicism (double unit strength).
If you can get them charging on a flank, great--if not, set the stone, bring in another support unit. Declare a challenge with the BSB, since he can take a pretty good beating from anything hero level or below, barring anything crazy, and then let the Lord go to town on the rank and file. The Ironbreakers are also extremely solid. Yeah, Hammerers would be stubborn if they're with the Lord, BUT, they die easier.

@ general_k I thought if you take an oathstone on a character then no other characters can join that unit.

@ neiltj1 --hm. upon closer inspection, you appear to be correct. duly noted. I"ll have to make alterations to that.
Though that strikes me as worthless. I don't think I'll ever take an Oath Stone again, in that case (since it's impossible to make a character that can both safely do challenges and hit hard).
