With the new line of sight rules coming out for 5th edition (alledgedly) do you guys think Grots will be worth putting back in your army? I'm not so sure because of kill points, and because my grasp of the game is weak, and I can't imagine how useful they would be.

No, not when for an extra 3 points per model you can get a basic shoota boy mob that will do the exact same thing, live longer and shoot better.

It really depends on how the rules work out. If it requires more bodies and you absolutely need a big screen, it might.

I can see it as a very cheap way to make sure your Lootas always get a 4+ save.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I took some grots as fluff and I'm always suprised at how much they actually kill. With the only BS 3 in the ork army, grots can be good shots and with a mob that's large enough, it's enough shots to take down DE and IG as well as tie up marines. My force of 25 grots kept 5 marines busy for 3-4 turns yesterday which can be invaluable if you need to protect some flanks.

The problem is, slugga boyz and grots both put down the exact same firepower (the BS3 is canceled out by S3), and shoota boyz outrange them, and have two shots. Boyz can actually kill stuff in Close Combat, while grots can't really (maybe IG or Tau, if you get lucky, and have a big mob). So, the only point would be fluff (this is the tactics section) or to get some cheep bodies on the table, which boyz do close to as good with some strength behind them. In 5th, if the 4+ screening thing or blocking LOS turns out to be true, they might have a role, and it will be more of a personal preferance than a boyz are better take them.

Yep, and grots will suprise you sometimes. I had a unit take down a chappy once. I couldn't stop giggling.

Jayden got it right, 30 Grots cost 120 points minimum, and you need the maximum squad because with LD7 they tend to run really fast, and being T2 models that are going to be out in front of other stuff, they will die pretty quick to anything.

For 120 points I can buy 20 Shoota Boyz who do more and last about as long considering they're T4 and not T2 and I don't care about their LD till I get below 11-9 models anyway.

Shootas are the better choice. THough I still prefer Kanz as a wall better.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

dang I didn't realize they were only T2. S2 fine, but T2?

SUCK.

Priced better at 2 points. That's right. Two points.

Kanz aren't T2, either

Kanz: Win.
Grotz: Fail.

Squig hounds kill grots and allow a reroll. Makes the Ld 7 a little better, and I would still look at taking a small 40pt wall of 10 grots and a herder to block line of site and charges lanes to something like lootas. Shootas are minimum 10, and I would always be wanting to move them up to actually do something. I don't have that problem with grots.

First game of the new edition I actually used a large screen of grots. I was able to trap a Hive Tyrant into assaulting them , and they held the first round. The herders ran in and used their grabba sticks next round taking down his attacks to a more manageable level, and I tarpitted him until I could get good ork units into the fray. He still killed a lot in the end, but I protected my other units from him, and won the game.
