LOL!.. cheer leader.. thats funny but true, sadly...
I have hims exclusively for a HTH foil with his command squad and Rites of battle benefit only.
I figured that. It's all the more reason to give him the
SB, since he'll be spending a lot of turns sitting about waiting to countercharge.
I am personaly one of a different mind set when it comes to ML's vs LC's. I belive missile launchers to be more effective overall due to the mixed ammo types ( ck, fg)
Flexibility is nice, but it often comes at the cost of efficiency. (There are exceptions, like assault cannons and autocannons.) In this case, it leads to you having to pick up the slack elsewhere (
TL LCs on the Dread and Pred), and the places that you've chosen to pick up the slack compound the inefficiency by being themselves inefficient.
Against tanks: which is better, 4 krak missile shots, 2
LCs and 2
TL LCs, or 6
LCs, an assault cannon and (against
AV <14) an autocannon? Easy choice
IMO.
Against hordes: which is better, 4 frag missile shots and 2
HBs or an autocannon, an assault cannon and 2
HBs? Closer, but I'd still call in favour of the latter choice.
In 5th ed, frags become better, it must be said. However, 5th ed also makes glancing hits a whole lot worse and turns
SMF from auto-glance to a cover save. Put together, what this means is that the gap between krak missiles and lascannons widens even further.
Basically, what my advice (and that's all it is: if mass
MLs work for you, great!) boils down to is this: all vehicle-mounted
DA lascannons are overpriced, but vehicle-mounted anti-horde is, well, fairly priced. Therefore, avoid all vehicle-borne lascannons and get your
AT needs covered in your squads instead. Compensate for the lack of flexibility by using the saved points to buy more dakka instead of multipurpose dakka (except where multipurpose dakka comes cheap).
