HEllo community, Im planning on playing a list with 4 rhinos in it. What good tactics or things to consider that are out there concerning rhinos.

the rhino rush will be back in fifth, though with a somewhat reduced effect. Though you are also going to need smoke launchers. (and if you are planning a rhino heavy list you shoould really go BA or DA)

They can also block off part of the board for when facing horde armies, that army doesn't look so unkillable ifyou acn take on one half at a time.

Why Rhino rush in 5th when you can move almost as quickly on foot?

Rhinos are nice in a shooty army because they let you reposition troops quickly when you absolutely have to. In objective based missions, I often use a large tac squad to shoot for most of the game, mount them up on 5 and then go grab an objective on 6. It also lets you quickly move squads out of an assault area once your opponent commits to a flank.

As other people already mentioned, they can be used to block LOS and as moveable terrain if you are willing to sacrifice the points. I am usually involved in games where those seemingly unimportant 58 points can be the swing between a win and a tie so I fight the Rhinos like any other unit and try to maximize their survivability.

Mech Marines are a tough army to play in 4th because you have to make a lot of smart tactical decisions to be successful. Moving a squad in the vehicle means a significant reduction in firepower and your movement needs to be good to reduce the chances of the Rhino blowing up and your squad being subsequently pinned.

@ TC: I assume your talking about how the rumored running gives you the ability to move 6+d6 in a given turn? Rhinos can still give you an additional layer of protection if you need it and in certain boards, the ability to move more quickly down roads can be taken advantage of. They can also be used to section of assaults and break the enemys supporting fires if placed correctly. For example, if your opponent deploys two firewarriors squads near another, you could drive the Rhino between the two and disembark on one side of it. That makes your opponent choose between trying to get a tough kill on the Rhino with his firewarriors or moving the squad to potentially rapid fire on the Marines next turn.

I have no issue with any of that, but there is a large gap between something being useful (as Rhinos no doubt will be) and something being so good it's almost compulsory. The last time I saw the Rhino rush, it was a no-brainer choice; that's what I took Ratbarf's meaning to be when he said the rush was "back." Possibly I read too much into the comment. Viable? Yes. 3rd ed all over again? Nowhere near.

Its back as in its now viable again. you no longer get entangled, (though I thought that rule was rather realistic) and with the changed damage tables it should be a bit more survivable. So you actually do it with a decent chance of success now where as currently its like riding a 50 point deathtrap. (instead of a 35 pt deathtrap like the DA have and the SM will soon have)

The rhinos will be in a Dark Angels army, my list is posted in the army list section here -------->DA Army list

By DA codex standars they come with smoke lauchers already.
