On moon miranda.

Ok, so I am extremely new to fantasy and am basically seeing how/if I want to get into it, and I've decided that if I do play fantasy, I want to play Chaos.

I have only the vaguest of ideas from a skimming of the rulebook and Chaos army book about how the game works compared with 40k, but here's the list I came up with. Please tell me if this list is just plain slowed/won't work, if anything looks out of place, if I am missing something vital, or if I have done something wrong.

Chaos Lord
Shield
Runesword
Gaze of the Gods
Chaos Steed.

Sorcerer-Level 2
Chaos Steed
Power Familiar
Lore of Death

Sorcerer-Level 2
Chaos Steed
Dispel Scroll
Power Stone
Lore of Fire

10 Chosen Chaos Knights w/Shields & Musician

3x 10 Chaos Knights w/Shields & Musician.

1x Chaos Spawn.

2249pts.

-thanks!

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Wow, that a lot of chosen knights! Coming from 40k, you probably know that lots of a good thing is really a better thing than the sum of the various components. This is not true for fantasy; bigger is not in fact, always better. For instance, look at your unit of chosen knights. It's huge! The main difference between 40k and fantasy is the movement phase, and while you have good movement, you lack fast cavalry and fliers, which will allow you to dominate the phase. My advise to you is to cut all of your units down to 5 knights with a banner, and mark the regular ones as khorne. Then, you need to buy up a many screamers, furies and chaos hounds that you can in order to force your opponent to move in the way you want and not vice versa. Welcome to fantasy!

No sense in getting screamers or furies unless you plan to do daemons. New mortals list doesn't allow access to daemons. Try the puppies, Marauder horsemen and some chariots.

And knights are going to be special choices as well, so that's another vote in favor of some marauder horsemen to keep the speed theme and give you some flexible units to go out and do important things not related to killing (bait and flee, hunt backfield, etc).

Speaking of killing though, chaos knights at least in my experience are pretty bad at it. 1 attak each is pretty poor, even with WS5 S5 I5 behind it, though yes there's also a meaty WS3 S4 kick from his horse too :S ... What knights are good at in theory is not dying, with a 2+ or 1+ save (chosen), combine that with a charge that gives you a wound or two and then standard / war banner and I guess that's how they beat other units. With some flank chargers in there to remove ranks though I could see knights breaking a ranked unit, but you're gonna need some maneuerable elements to get the knights where you want them and with proper support.

Looks like you want to go Undivided, which isn't a bad idea for just starting out, that psych reroll really helps out. Here's a 2k tweak to your list:

Chaos Lord - runesword, gaze of the gods, shield, steed = 337
Sorcerer - lvl 2, power familiar, steed = 186
Sorcerer - lvl 2, scroll, stone, steed = 186

5 Marauders - spears, musician = 76
5 Marauders - spears, musician = 76
5 Marauders - spears, musician = 76
5 Warhounds = 30
5 Warhounds = 30

6 Chosen Knights - command, warbanner = 345
6 Knights - command = 248
6 Knights - command = 248
Chariot = 120

2 Spawn = 120

Total: 2076 points

So that leaves a bunch of points to play with, but only 1 rare, 1 hero and lots of core to use it in. Perhaps another kill character or caster? The knights could probably use some customizing, but I'm no fan or expert on them so I leave that to others - I was also trying to keep them undivided, so didn't mess with marks or banners really. I guess you could buff one up to 10 strong, I've not really seen them run so huge and it's a concept.

Why so much command on such small units? Banners= Victory Points for your opponent, take only what you need to win the fight.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help. But we can raise awareness.... 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste

Welcome to fantasy, I think you'll like it . What Etherdude said is right on the money. For double the points to get 10 chosen knights, all you're adding to the unit is one point of combat resolution. 6 of those guys is more than enough to beat most units, they're insane. If you want to use magic (and since you're playing Chaos you should) I would recommend Slaanesh, their magic is the best in Chaos and one of the best in the game. It will also help you in that your knights will not have a chance to run away if one of the flimsy other units is destroyed.

"But remember that there are over 1000 chapters of spase marienz! So the SM codex has to cover over 1000 different kinds of spase marienz! Codex CSM only has to cover 1 kind (the Chaos kind). And I don't even think Eldar are a kind of spase marienz at all. Hurr!"

It's a company which specialises in the selling of plastic representations of Elves, Goblins, and 9 foot tall superhuman soldiers from the future - have you ever considered that, as adults, it is US that is intruding upon THEIR world?
