40k will be...er, let's say...18 yrs old this year. Pick your favourite 40k minis and we can decide which is the best of all time. 2 rules-

Mine would be Ragnar Blackmane as thats what hooked me to the hobby and Logan grimnor

OK how about:

Old model? Inquisitional Stormtrooper (Mark Bedford sculpts)

New model? Black Templar Space Marine

I honestly don't know what to pick. I like one of the new Farseers. I also like Grey Knights and Death Cults. Lots of Chaos stuff is cool.

As for older stuff ... it doesn't really do it for me. Mephisto, if I have to pick something. I am not big on the 2D metal chars.

Old stuff: Phoenix Lords (Maugan Ra mostly)
New Stuff: harlequins

20th Century: Kharn the Betrayer. He's a seminal piece that's stood the test of time and still looks bad-ass!

21st Century: Simply for the sheer awesomeness, I'm picking the Kasrkin with Meltagun.

Old: Phoenix Lords, It's crazy how well there have stood the test of time.

New: Penitent Engine by far and away. It's a pity they're also one of the least usable units in the game.

I didn't play 40k back in C20, so most of my favorite minis from then are fantasy ones. All the same, the chaos sorcerers have weathered well and now serve in my chaos force. Many many great minis have come out in C21, but I think the gigantisized CSM prince is my favorite for how unique and versatile the sculpt is. The FW dreads collectively are WAY up there too, but I stuck with Citadel for this one

New: Ghazhkull Thraka, beatifull scupt, and it's as big as a warboss should be.

Old:

Classic.

Rogue Trader was released in 1988 or 1989. I bought it in early 1989. In the States, I might add.

My M2 (nerd alert!) choice: Commander Dante



My M3 choice is personal (and also a Goodwin, his last Marine, I believe): 2003 Rune Priest

Old: Captain Tycho. Awesome commander model, despite not waving his weapon in the air and screaming.


New: Prince Yriel. Space Pirates FTW. No screaming here either. Hmm...

For oldschool, its the harlequin jetbike...and apparently its so old school I can't even dig up a good picture of one. Here is a conversion using some dark eldar bike parts, but what really made the model great is the hood which is depected fairly well in this picture.



As far as new models go, this is one of my favorites.



Saint Celestine was a close second.

Though for RT era plastics I would go for the original Imperial guard plastics. But still I do love my beakies.

I was going to pick Ezekiel for the old, but I figured someone else could nominate him, as he represents all that is Dark and Gothic about 40k, where as this humble fellow represents the worn and downtrodden aspect of 40k. One of my favourite sculpts. I couldn't find out if it was a Goodwin sculpt, but I think it is.

For the new, I nominate Juan Diaz' Daemonette Cavalry... which now count as generic daemons. HURR.
