Regular Dakkanaut

I was putting together my undivided terminator champ last night and came across a bit of quandry. This was more about overall rules and how well we can see in the future and thus making models last with little refit edition to edition. For the current edition, my choice would be combi-plasma and a demon weapon. The combi-plasma is a well rounded weapon with good versitility. The demon weapon as the most killing power, being 0.6 MEQ kills better than twin lightning claws. Twin-lightning claws also looses the ability to gain any kills through shooting. My concerns are as follows:
1) Combi-plasma is unique to the lastest incantation of the Chaos Codex. Combi-melta and flamer were the only options prior to this. I am concerned that plasma will either get nerfed or the ability to take a combi-plasma removed in subsiquent editions. This means I can either get combi-melta or a combi-bolter and feel relatively safe. This problem also applies to regular terminators.
2) Demon weapons have moved around in effectiveness over the editions. If demon weapons are removed in the future, I'd be left with a power weapon. This wasn't too bad in the previous codex because I could mutate up the strength to get more killing power. The option is to replace with a single lightning claw as they have been pretty consistant over all editions.
3) Twin-lightning claws is probably the most safe route to go and would be the choice if I were using a Khorne lord. Lightning claws have been pretty solid through all editions and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
4) Fists have been nerfed since 3rd edition came out. I don't see this reversing anytime soon and as such, don't see these as a legitimate option for characters. I do see the need to run 1 or 2 in a standard squad.\
What configuration should I use?

Build a few arms and weapon combos and then either pin them on to the body or magnetize them if future editions are a big worry for you. I don't think a new chaos codex is scheduled for any time soon though.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink. |

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Khorne: TL LC
The other demon weapons are pretty good, especially the Tzeentch one. (IMO).

The CSM codex just came out a while ago, and there is no talk of a new one. It's pretty much already in the 5th ed mold. At this point, worrying about options that might be invalidated is paranoid.

Techboss: Some rumours suggest that the Gets Hot! rule will be less punishing in the new edition. Currently you have to make an armour save or suffer a wound whenever the number rolled on your to-hit dice equals the number of to-hit dice you've rolled. According to rumour, it will just be rolls of "1", so a Combi-Weapon incorporating a Plasma Gun may actually be a safer bet in the next edition than it is now.
However, given that no actual Combi-Plasma model seems to be available, if my quick scan of various bitz stores is any indication, then maybe your paranoia is justified (you got me paranoid about it).
I'd suggest that taking a Combi-Flamer or Combi-Melta might be better if combined with a Daemon Weapon (which Mark are you planning on?), to either provide crowd-thinning capabilities, or defense against tanks that might run you over.

Nurglitch - demon weapon is a two-handed weapon, as are combi-weapons. Can you take both? Will you be able to take both in the new rules?

Yeah, you can take both. You just won't get the +1A for having an additional close combat weapon (whatever Pistol you have) when using the Daemon Weapon.

Which is a mute point for terminators as you can't take pistols anyway

Sure, but it's useful to point out that the whole one-handed/two-handed legacy rule from editions past is limited to a bonus attack nowadays.
