So after well over a year since my last game, I've picked up WM/H again, and I've noticed I've missed quite a bit. My WM faction of choice is Cygnar with a healthy force of Mercs. I have pretty much everything for Cygnar except for Rangers, the Longgunner UA and Trencher UA. I'm missing some Mercs too, though I'm not sure which ones. I'll be picking up the UA's for Longgunners and Trenchers this week, but am hesitant about the Rangers. Are they any good? Which Casters do they work best with? Anything else Cygnar I should look for.

As for Hordes, I play Legion, and am very, very back logged here. I've got a good deal of units from Primal, though I never got around to picking up Harriers, Warmongers, Striders or the Spawning Vessel. I have absolutely nothing from Evolution, though I will be picking the book up in the next week or two to see what I've missed. So any advice on what I should pick up for Legion? Any "must haves," or just start picking up stuff as I want?

Any other advice for someone who's been away for a while?

I would hold off on the Rangers until we get the rules for your mounted caster. He may make them a lot more worthy of inclusion.

Rangers are a cheap gun unit (62 pts) that come with some
decent utility. If you already have Trenchers and/or
Longgunners, look to them to give you more shots on the
table, advance deploy, etc. I haven't seen Signal used too
effectively yet.

As for Legion, people talk up Rhyas and Saeryn, and I
think the Angelius and Nephilim are supposed to be good.
Not sure about the catapult, I haven't heard good things
about the Raek or the Swordsmen. There was a good deal
of complaining about the UA, more because people didn't
want to field the archers, I think.

The incubi are supposed to be good.

Those legion cav that look like extras from "Princess Mononoke" are pretty badass. I had to spend waaay too much time in my last game against legion killing them off instead of being able to go after the big beasty threats.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Saeryn is 'the new Vayl'. Legion's top performing caster. Rhyas is definately fun, and is supposed to be good but I have never tried her.

Angelius is first rate. So are Incubi. Raptors are solid. Solid as in call it A- whereas the other two are A+.

Of the three melee beasts, Nephilim, Teraph and Raek, the Neph gets the nod, especially once you consider its animus. The Raek gets a bit of poo-pooing. Legion tends to suffer from too many good things, and some cool/ weird stuff doesn't get to shine like it could.

Archer UA is good. Doubly so since it provides Arcing Fire and you can screen them behind your own guys.

Legionaires are OK with Thaggy but aren't fearless.

I like the Scather. It gives you some nice bit of shooting for 27 points and you can slipstream it.

And the Shepherd. People like that too, although its not for me. I might try it with Rhyas though.

That, and all the minions from Evolution are good. Bonegrinders, Bog Trogs, Gatormen, Feral Geist, malfred's drunken Ogryn guy.

I haven't picked up a drunken Ogryn yet. The one I painted
was the Ogrun Bokur.

Thanks for the replies all. While it is good that the cav is good, my wallet is kinda upset about that fact. I'll be picking up Evolution and maybe another lock this week, though I've already got a ton of Cygnar and Legion to still paint. :(

Rangers work best in Trencher heavy forces and Siege lists, IMO. They can give your AOE ranged attacks +2 to hit. The Ambush-thing they give another one of your units sucks because they can't attack on the turn they come in.

Arlan Strangeways comes out soon. He's a jack marshal and can repair and buff jacks. He also has Cygnar's first spray weapon.

I agree pretty much with what's been said thus far about the Legion stuff.

For Mercs, you pretty much just missed the Pirate book. It's kind of a lot to go through right now, so I'll save it until the next time I see you. Another round of mercs has been previewed in the last NQ, but they won't be out until June I believe so you have some time there.

Oh, you also missed the Ally units. Highborn can take Precursors (which you have), 4 Star can take Kayazy Assassins, and Magnus Agenda can take Idrian Skirmishers. All of these units are very good with near-mandatory UAs. Mercs can use the Cephalyx yet.

Rangers just don't interest me right now, I'll have to wait and see what the new Cygnar Caster does before I look at them more. Oh, and I'll be picking up Strangeways, that's for sure. And I know a bit about all the Pirate Mercs, but I want to get caught up with Cygnar and Legion before I even look at them.

Oh, and I've been rereading Prime to brush up on my rules, and I noticed that Field Mechanics have Jack Marshal? Is that new in Remix, or did I just never notice that before?

They added that in Remix. Now if only they'd given it to my necrotech...
