if an infantry unit charges an immobilized landraider... is it locked into combat with it?

i know the rulebook says no model can be locked in a vehicle that has no WS... but my opponent said it is possible if is otherwise unable to move away...

is this true? my vehicle is locked and cannot shoot and my other models cannot shoot at his unit that's locked with my vehicle?

Locked is not the same as Immobilized.

If your Land Raider is immobilized, then it is not locked in close combat, it is just immobilized. Likewise the infantry unit is not locked in close combat with the Land Raider, whether that Land Raider is mobile or not.

okay my opponent was saying that he was able to keep his squad of dark eldar wyches locked in my landraider to tie it up for the rest of the game, due to the fact that it was immobilized and he had charged it (thus initiating a combat, and it was locked, because he was not able to penetrate it with anything in that squad) .. this preventing me from shooting the squad to knock it below half

See: "Infantry Assaulting Vehicles", page 71.

"Whilst vehicles can be assaulted by infantry, they cannot be Locked in close combat by them, so when the vehicle's player turn comes around it can simply drive off (unless damage prevents it). Alternately, it could just remain stationary and blaze away with its weapons at the enemy around it, although this might be rather dangerous when using ordnance or blast weapons."

"At the conclusion of a round of close combat against a vehicle with no WS characteristic, there are no sweeping advances or Consolidation moves. The vehicle and the infantry are free to simply move away on future turns."

"Models that have assaulted a vehicle with not WS are not classed as Locked, and can therefore be shot at (or through) during the Shooting phase, just bear in mind Blast markers and templates may well hit both sides."

Vehicles cannot be locked in combat with infantry.

This was what my opponent showed me in the rulebook.

He was trying to say, since my landraider was damaged (immobilzed) it could not simply drive off, therefor it could be locked in close combat.

The bit about the vehicle driving off is an effect, not a cause.

The vehicle can drive off because it can not be locked. Not the other way around.

The rule you just quoted very clearly states that a vehicle can not be locked in combat.

i see... that was how i understood it too, but he was insistent and i didnt want to make a big deal out of it... it actually costed me the game because i couldnt kill his scoring unit that was locked with my landraider....

I found this amusing for some reason.

After lurking here for sometime, I have to agree with the observation that Nurglitch engages in proof by assertion.
This, by the by, is by no means meant to be taken as a threat or an attack of character, but it is meant as constructive criticism of the posting style of the poster.
