I'm going to be playing smallish games against a pretty large range of armies (Orcs, Tau, Nids, Marines, Chaos Marines and IG) so I'm looking for something that isn't tailored to a certain approach. A fun list based around the battle force box set and probably another box of warriors, I like the idea of an army mostly made up of its standard troops that isn't going to be something that will seem like an exploit or beardy army.

I was going to have a core of warriors in either two squads of 20 or two of 14 and one of 12, ten scarab bases, 3 destroyers and a lord. Then I'm kind of stuck, I have some old skeletons and claw bits I could make into flayed ones and was thinking that Immortals look awesome. I would like a monolith but not really at 1000 points and not sure if I can pick one up second hand or not.

mmm being new and looking at the rest of this forum i think ill just throw some lists up here I've been playing with.

Im starting with the lord and battlebox
HQ

Lord 100 points

Troops

Warriors x 14 252 points

Warriors x 14 252 points

Fast Attack

Scarab Swarm x 7 84 points

Destroyers x 3 150 points

Total 738 points

From there to go to 1000 points im not sure what to do, Im thinking adding another box of warriors for a unit of 12 or just beefing them out to blocks of 20 and getting up to a swaud of 10 scarabs. That takes my up to 990 points without wargear for the lord. I was thinking res orb and gaze of flame, maybe phylactery? Id drop the odd warrior or scarab to get there.

Any thoughts?

personally, dont bother with the two 20 man warrior squads, its a waste to have so many men in one squad. Instead break the 40 warriors (from both the battleforce and another box set) into 4x10 man squads, its more tactically diverse then.

Also I always take a 10 man scarab swarm squad, it can either hold up lots of enemies over the game, or actually kill enemy fire bases that would otherwise blow you to peices.

For the Lord, yes take ressurection orb, its a must have. As for the rest, maybe take a Phylacatary (spelling?) as it should come in more handy than gaze of flame, unless your aiming to get into combat unsupported...which I don't recomend. Oh, and take a Warscythe, its woth its weight against vehicles.

If going for 1500pts then get a Monolith, they are hard to drop and look awesome on the battlefield. Last recomendation would be to take 2 units of 1 heavy destroyer, it will help take out tanks, which can be a problem for Necrons, even with the Gauss rule.

Good luck, and let me know if that was any use to you

If you expand to 1500 pts, add as many Destroyers as you can get, say 3 squads of 4.
Destroyer-heavy forces are really mean these days.

i would definitely add a mono, its nearly impossible to kill since it has all those fancy special rules (melter weapons dont get 2 dice for armor penetration, dark lances dont lower the armor to 12, etc.) furthermore you get a free teleporter every round to save your nec warris from close combat.
i play chaos (iron warriors) and never lost against a friend of mine who was playing nec, but when he finnally got his mono i really had a hard time... porting his warris out of cc with my termis leaving them in the middle of nowhere to be blasted away by mono main weapon in next round !!
furthermore you can deploy using deep strike rules...
definitely a game winner and a must for every nec army larger than 1000 pts

unless you are playing a very basic army, you are not going to win very much with the units you get from just the battle force. You need either lots of destroyers, lots of immortals, or a monolith. This will give you a much better chance of winning.

Mmm im thinking something like this to get to 1000 points

HQ

Lord 100 points
Res Orb 40 points

Troops

Warriors x 15 252 points

Warriors x 15 252 points

Fast Attack

Scarab Swarm x 10 120 points

Destroyers x 3 150 points

Destroyers x 3 150 points

Total 1064 points

To get down to 1000 points i could drop a warrior and a destroyer and get 1 squad of five, but i like the idea of two squads, so maybe I'd drop some more warriors and a scarab base or three

Then to go up to 1500 points I could add another 10 warriors for 180 points, a monolith for 235 leaving me with 85 points. Is one heavy destroyer worth it here? should I drop some warriors/scarabs to get a second so I can use 2 squads of 1?
Also at 1500 can I survive without a second lord w/veil and orb and a squad of immortals, everyone seems to love them but at $20 per blister of one they seem a bit brutal, but to get them I'd need to drop everything else I used to get from 1000 -> 1500

with your destroyers gauss cannons I don't see any point in taking any Immortals, as for the Lord, 2 can be useful but without many warriors there isn't much point, unless you mount him on destroyer body to accompany your destroyers
