More fun rules questions!
New Daemon book; I have a unit of Plaguebearers and a Herald of Nurgle on Palanquin (50x50mm base). Or Bloodletters w/ a Jugger Herald, same difference.
How do you have to rank them?
Example 1: (x is daemon, 0 is herald):
xx00xx
xx00xx
xxxxx
xxxxx
This is "five exact models wide" on all ranks. Per the rule book "The unit always has the same number of models in each rank." This is the RAW reading of this far as I can tell. We are left with an annoying irregular setup.
Example 2: (x is daemon, 0 is herald):
xx00xx
xx00xx
xxxxxx
xxxxxx
This is six "models" wide on each rank, if you count the 50x50 as 2 "bases worth". This is the most common arrangement but again, RAW I'm not sure this is correct since in theory there are 5 "models" in the front 2 ranks, and 6 in the others.
Example 3: (x is daemon, 0 is herald):
xx00x
xx00x
xxxxx
xxxxx
Same as above only 5 wide instead. Or is this arrangement no rank bonus at all since there are only four "models" in the front ranks?
Seems silly I know, but it came up in a discussion over at The Daemonic Legion and I thought I'd get some Dakka input.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, Warhammer Chronicles 2004 pg113 says to count the amount of space taken up by the model, but this was written during 6th ed. Still a valid ruling?
