Thanks for the feedback! I agree that some of the white is not perfect though, especially on the waveserpents. On the tanks this is usually just because I have had them for so long, so painting over old paintjobs left a rough finish etc etc.. Oh well.

As for troops, the guardians aren't special enough for sashimonos, but they all have hakama [the big pants]. The Dire Avengers got special treatment though:



Try to ignore the one banner I didn't finish painting the DAs were modeled trying to portray the "defend" power, which is always a pain to play against.



Also their sashes are a little bit big, as this was the first squad I modeled after a long break, and so my technique was a bit off.

Guardians:





Back when this was USF, these two small squads of black storm guardians with haywire grenades and fusions/flamers were so much fun, and really effective...but now they just lamely shoot BLs at BS3...Oh well, I kept their katanas and grenades to commemorate the glory days.

The freehand is really amazing, but it is a shame that the white lets it down. It creates a strange sort of disconnect, like if Da Vinci had forgotten to colour in the Mona Lisa's eyes or something.

I agree regarding the white. I have a chinese wall scroll hanging on my wall and the background color is an off white/parchment, which I think would have allowed you to add a little more definition while retaining the bright look. Great work though.

What did you use to make the sashimono? I've been wanting to add them to all my Aspect Warriors for years but never got around to it, mostly because I never sat down to think about exactly how I'd do it...

I like the concept, and the freehand. Seriously awesome. I dont think the white is as bad as people are saying, but it is a drawback. Is there any reason you dont strip the models before you repaint?

Your cherry blossums are to die for, your free hand is so good and my favourite tree is the cherry blossum. Im lost for words. Your eldar are so good.

Ok, been searching around and got some info.

You can get a set of 30 Glaives (sp?) or 24 bacvkpacky things from perry miniatures for £6 each. Just search for Perry miniatures in google and find samurai armies.

If the white is disappointing to you, and you want to make it a little more ancient Japan you could make it all look like parchment by taking the brown wash from GW and mix it 50/50 with water and put it on the whole model designs and everything and it should give the parchment look, which would be much more striking than the white. Free is awesome.

Fantastic idea, very well executed. I guess there could be more contrast between the kanji/cherry blossoms and the background color, but overall I think it's outstanding.
