I've been thinking about how to best use the DP's in the daemon lists and an idea of using pavane + breath of chaos came to mind. The real benefit is not having to use the expensive wings upgrade to make them effective.
With pavane hitting on a 2+, lining units up for maximum hits is very likely.
If you have the core of the daemon army centred around a couple of plaguebearer units with icons this could be a very reliable tactic.
Especially if you were going to be able to rinse repeat with other DP's dropping in a similar config.
Thoughts?

i think you are going to see more slaaneshi DPs with wings and musk. i6 MCs charging every turn are going to be troop squads worse nightmare.
however i like the idea of the pavane DP. but, pavane on a dp is 30pts and they only have a 3+/5+.. id rather get a DP into combat to tear some ass.
masque gets to cast 3 pavanes every turn, and you can take another herald with pavane and hide them in either a big unit of demonettes, or maybe even a unit of seekers. thatll be 4, and maybe throw another pavane on a keeper and you have 5.

I dunno, these guys seem to do it all for themselves. Also bear in mind that you can always attempt to put the most valuable members of the opponents force closest to you when using the pavane (distance depending) meaning that they would be hamstringing their units to prevent you charging anyway.

Man, Pavane and Flamers could be pretty darn scary first turn. Get a few units clumped up nicely and toast multiples at once? Ew.

untill the gods decide to make you sweat and drop your intended reserve side in on turn one.

Ztryder, you're not making sense. How does fielding this combo make your reserve side weaker? There's no reason why it should be any weaker or stronger than the reserve side in any other list.

no no, i wasnt referring to the combo making the reserve side weak, i was saying how a heavy pavane + flamer first wave wouldnt be nearly as effective if it had to trickle in through reserve.
an army built to have the flamers and pavane DPs drop in the first wave would need to have a second wave designed to support and reinforce the flamer/dp first wave.
so if your 'support/reinforcement' units enter first, there will need to be some quick thinking and lucky second turn reserve rolls to pull off the intended effect of the army.

The point is that you can choose a relatively safe drop point within range of the enemy and barring a bad scatter and rolling a 1 to hit for pavane, rolling a 1 for distance...you should be able to clump a unit nicely for breath of chaos death.
It won't matter if these guys come down in the first wave or if they come down from reserves as they'll always have a good shot at making their points back on the turn they drop.
Sure combining these guys with a few units of 3 flamers would make for even more nastyness
There are a lot of random factors involved however, so its best to bank the strength of daemon units on their ability to do things solo and take the bonus of synergy when it happens.
