ALCON,

Here is a test listed for the rumored 5th edition changes, based off the current Dark Angel rules. The idea is to start developing ideas for how marines will be restructured in the coming rules. Please feel free to post your feedback and your ideas on how to improve on the list.

Take care,
Mike K.

HQ: Company Master (1#, 125 Pts)
1 Company Master @ 125 Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol; Power Fist
1 Iron Halo @ [0] Pts
*Deploys with one of the Razorback squads

Troops: Tactical Squad (11#, 255 Pts)
9 Tactical Squad @ 255 Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x9); Bolter (x7); Plasmagun; Missile Launcher
1 Rhino @ [50] Pts
Storm Bolter; Extra Armor; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
1 Sergeant @ [33] Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x1); Power Weapon

Troops: Tactical Squad (11#, 265 Pts)
9 Tactical Squad @ 265 Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x9); Bolter (x7); Plasmagun; Missile Launcher
1 Rhino @ [50] Pts
Storm Bolter; Extra Armor; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
1 Sergeant @ [43] Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x1); Power Fist
*These two squads are the bread and butter of the list. They can deploy back to shoot when needed or mount up and move into assault when needed. Also designed to be used in tandem to seize objectives.

Troops: Tactical Squad (11#, 285 Pts)
9 Tactical Squad @ 285 Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x9); Bolter (x7); Flamer; Lascannon
1 Razorback @ [80] Pts
Twin Linked Lascannon; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
1 Sergeant @ [33] Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x1); Power Weapon

Troops: Tactical Squad (11#, 300 Pts)
9 Tactical Squad @ 300 Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x9); Bolter (x7); Meltagun; Lascannon
1 Razorback @ [80] Pts
Twin Linked Lascannon; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
1 Sergeant @ [43] Pts
Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Bolt Pistol (x1); Power Fist
*These two squads will always be combat squaded. The idea is to put 5 Marines with the lascannon from each to defend the home objective and provide long range support while the other two combat squads, with the specials and the Sergeants, can advance in tandem with the Rhinos or serve as a counter-assault. The Razorbacks will either hang back and snipe at enemy vehicles or be used to transport the combat squads forward.

Heavy Support: Predator (1#, 130 Pts)
1 Predator @ 130 Pts
Autocannon; Lascannon (x2); Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
*Strong safety of the list. Designed to shoot at the most important threat left standing after the rest of the list finishes pounding it.

Heavy Support: Predator (1#, 95 Pts)
1 Predator @ 95 Pts
Autocannon; Heavy Bolter (x2); Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
*Troop killer

Heavy Support: Whirlwind (1#, 85 Pts)
1 Whirlwind @ 85 Pts
Vengenance Missiles; Whirlwind Multiple Missile Launcher; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers
*Troop killer

Fast Attack: Ravenwing Support Squadron (1#, 100 Pts)
1 Ravenwing Support Squadron @ 100 Pts
Heavy Bolter (x1); Assault Cannon

Fast Attack: Ravenwing Support Squadron (1#, 100 Pts)
1 Ravenwing Support Squadron @ 100 Pts
Heavy Bolter (x1); Assault Cannon
*More troop killers

Total Roster Cost: 1740

Can't really see the 5th ed specifics.
Scouts (RW squadrons) and infiltrators (Command squad) get a boost,
while tanks are reduced to pillboxes (Predators must be stationary to fire all weapons).

Debated putting scouts into a trial list, but am a little nervous about whether or not they will score. Right now I'm looking at having six scoring units in the list, with up to two more possible.

As for tanks being pillboxes, that is not terribly different from real life. An M1A1 can only effectively fire two weapons while on the move, and even then it can only be one at a time since they are both controlled from the same station. It also brings out the tactical decision making element of the game---am I going to shoot this turn or do I need to maneuver?

I did consider replacing the Predators with Devastator squads, but the equivalent weapons would cost more points (295 for 3 HBs and 2 two Lascannons in minimum squads opposed to 225 for the Preds) for no real gain in survivability or mobility.

Take care,
Mike K.

You would think that by the year 40,000 they would have improved on a tank firing system designed in the 1980's?

As for the list you might want to change the powerfist on the HQ since he gets no bonus to attack unless he has 2 fists. Als can you get two attack bikes for the price of a Tornado? If so I wold want 2 attack bikes for each tornado.

Can't take attack bikes unless you get a full attack squadron with the DA rules. Which would cost much much more.

As to your list, you need more anti tank methinks, I would drop the whilry and grab a dev squad with 4 missile launchers. They can deal with hordes good enough and have anti tank ability.

@ Ratbarf: Thats a good consideration. But where do you get the points from? The whirlwind is only 85 so something else would have to be taken out of the list as well. Right now the list has 6 lascannons on 5 different systems, plus 2 missile launchers for anti-tank work.
