A long way to go for not much of a joke...
And, I'm pretty sure I own the shirt that the "Dad" is wearing.
It is easily at least 15 years old...
Anyway, carry on...

I thought about putting something up after seeing it Saturday night, but I wasn't sure if anybody else watched SNL. I thought it was great. One of the writers must play or they would have used D&D as the generic geek game. Where's your toy monsters and loser friends, indeed.

I was both amused and offended when I saw this on Saturday (mainly amused).
I liked that nobody in the audience had any idea what the heck they were talking about in the sketch.
But I think "monster toys" is an awesome way to describe warhammer figures. . .it's going up in the dakka page headers, that's for sure.

I didn't even know it was still on the air. And after looking up their ratings, neither did anyone else. Yet great shows like Jericho and Firefly get whacked, and "shows" liek American Idol continues...
Oops, I'm ranting...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

If you listen to the commentary for 40 year old virgin (or maybe it was just a behind the scenes) they talk about getting the idea for him painting after going into this "store in Glendale where there were all these grown men playing with monsters" or a quote close to that. Yeah, that would be the GW store...

That sketch was awful. The only thing that amused me was remembering how different the UK version of deal or no deal is. Look it up on youtube, it's amazing. Sketch-not funny. Nice reference though. A sketch that long needs a really good kicker at the end, it didn't really have that.

Is Deal or No Deal still on? Hell, is it even relevant anymore? Or is this just NBC grasping onto one of their few shows people know about?
Anyway, not funny. Some of the Dad's rants were okay, but nothing special.

SNL hasn't been particularly funny in... I don't know, a decade or more? It's kind of a shame really, since it used to be hillarious.
Anymore, it seems to be mostly just geeky kids trying to be popular by making fun of other geeky kids, and failing. That and rehashed skits. It kind of makes me sad, considering how funny it was in the good old days.
Ahh well. At least you can get Firefly on DVD...

That was a fairly lame WH reference, would have been funnier (and more understandable to the general audience) if Dad would have ranted more about it.
John McCain was hilarious on Saturday. "Imagine walking out of the convention and STILL not knowing who your candidate is. That would be crazy....crazy fun."
SNL does have it's moments. It's so much better than the current season of MadTV...good lord that's a trainwreck.

My fiance and I had a laugh at the Warhammer comment. Looks like a couple other people in the audience did too. I thought John McCain was hilarious, best part of the whole show, which is kinda sad...

It's better now than it was a few years ago. Andy Samberg and Bill Hader are good. Better than freakin Jimmy Fallon ever thought about being. Can't believe he's getting Conan O'Brein's show.

Sure Warhammer is fun and you get to paint! Woo! What does D&D get? lots of talking. Lots and lots of verbal quests. Yay? I don't think so.

Not trying to hijack thread, but I found this interesting on the WotC website:
What is Dungeons & Dragons?
D&D is an imaginative, social experience that engages players in a rich fantasy world filled with larger-than-life heroes, deadly monsters, and diverse settings. As a hobby game, D&D is an ongoing activity to which players might devote hours of their time—much like a weekly poker game—getting together with friends on a regular basis for weeks, months and even years.
On another note, this has been a banner half-year for update mayhem. Magic: The Gathering Online went to v3 and it blows. D&D 4th. Ed. in June, and 5th Ed. 40K in July.

D&D is a bit more than that. Considering its been around 30+ years it must get something right. And often you can use models in D&D so I always break out the Warhamer models. And Ive even bought some custom Reaper models for a specific character.
I love D&D, and I love Warhams..... The two arent exclusive.

I actually question if SNL was ever actually funny. Sure it has had moments but it is one of those shows where nostalgia to the days when you were 10-15 years old and staying up that late was really cool makes it significantly better than it realyl was.

This is the correct answer. It has its moments but really it is more of the occasional diamond in the log pile, and that goes for each decade. More misses than hits. Time is SNL's best friend.

i'll agree with you there. there's been some phenomenal stuff over the years, but keep in mind, the show is 1.5 hours long and they do 20+ shows a year, but there's only a few standout bits from all that material.

Just like White Dwarf was best when you first started the hobby, and the music you listened to when you were 16-20 was the best ever written, the SNL of ones youth is always best.
Still, there has been a steady stream of comedy gold coming out of SNL for decades now. The D*ck in a Box alone will give SNL another 5 years.....

I don't know, my favorites are still ones from when I was WAY too young to appreciate them. The Bass Master 2000? Classic. The Invisible Pedestrian costume? Great.
Of course, that was when they had people on the show who went on to be in good movies like Ghost Busters.
I am going to go sit in my rocking chair and talk to my cat about the good old days now. Excuse me.
