So, with the pics and rumors flying I think I may want to get a head start on a Dark Elf Army. I'm assuming that they'll once again be a competitve army once the new book comes out. So, the question is, what sould I get now in order to get a jump start on the army? I'm thinking I should pick up 2 RBT's as it doesn't seem that they'll be getting a new model. I was also thinking of picking up a box or two of warriors and putting them together with the RXB's. This will let me nail down a paint scheme I want to use as well as getting some of the "basics" out of the way. Any other suggestions on what I may want to pick up now?

Dark riders with repeater crossbows, and spearmen.

So a box of DE warriors is 16, so if I pick up 4 that gives me 64 Warriors. Do I'm thinking 2x 20 spear elves and 2x 12 RXB's..... How many Dark Riders do you suggest, 2 units of 5?

Honestly I wouldn't leave home without at least 3 units of 5. Blocks of 20 spearelves is good probably 2. I at work and I don't have access to army builder so I don't know how many points that is at the moment. I would also make the RXB units as minimum as possible so that way you get more versatility with your shooting. Add a few repeater bolt throwers and characters and it sounds like a decent starting army.

Hm, thanks for the tips. I'm not really looking to play yet, just trying to get a core force ready for the new book. I'll wait to see what the new heros and whatnot look like before I pick any up. Thanks.

According to the rumors, Spearelves will be 7 pts base w/ LA & SH, +6 for RXB's....

Yeah I'm excited lol esp for hatred. I might just start em myself if they're good enough.

I plan on doing a head swap with the new corsairs though. Always hated their heads.

4 Boxes of warriors is an excellent start for your warrior needs. With rumors of stronger RXBs and cheap ranks they may return as a staple of the army, and have no rumors for a new box as of yet. I think your 12, 12, 20, 20 split is the right option. Or even just 3 boxes of 12 12 24 if you want to hold out for corsairs.

Even if warriors make a triumpant return, I am much more excited about some corsair goodness. They have fantastic models, and I would plan for one to two units of them.

The current Dark Rider models are ugly, but they won't be getting redone. Its easy to convert Dark Riders from Glade Rider box sets, giving you 3 units of dark riders from two boxes (way way cheaper and nicer horsies). Add RxBs from the extras in the warrior boxes.

Black Guard, Executioners, Witch elves are all going to be repackaged in a more expensive format. It may be wise to pick em up now, since they are also expected to keep their models. I think ASF witches will cause some real pain! Blackguard have one of the best models in all of warhammer, and hopefully they have appropriately mean rules now. Units of 12 is what you want here: hopefully with command options.
