Can I just say again that I love the design aesthetic Rackham has brought to AT-43? Especially the Weird-War II walking-washing-machine look of the Red Bloc stuff? The crazy art-deco jungle buggies are cool too.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

I'm glad that someone likes the walker sculpts from AT-43 so much, because they make me ill. Good for the folks who like it, not tryin to slag them off, but these things are just bad in my opinion. The Molot is better than some of the UN (or whatever the "other" flavor of human is, I forget) walkers, but that walker for the alien race is a wonderful collection of wonderful ideas put together in a frenzy of deplorable execution. I LOVE the organic, flowing look that the Therian walker components have. Very bio-mech, very cool. However, they managed to take such a great design theme and trash it by assembling these flowing components into a walker that STILL looks stodgy and blocky. That took talent. A talent for fouling things up.

It's just such a pity that so much potential and finesse is obvious in such a botched final product. That's the worst of it. You can see the talented thematics there, constrained by bad final design.

Hand me the Kleenex, evidently I need my Midol.

Edited because at-43 reminds me of my IQ and then some.

I like it

I think the Red block walkers are the best part of the entire At-43 range because they are all highly inspirated by Kow Yokoyama´s MaK Maschinenkrieger realm which I like a lot. Too bad the other stuff especially the UN looks rather bad and boring...and lets not talk about the rules here hehe. Anyway The Red Block walkers make for some nice conversions be it for for 40k or SOTR e.g.

invivos: Not familiar with Kow Yokoyama, but I'll be googling that name shortly to see what it's about. Yeah, the UNA stuff is just bad. I see a lot of good things here, bits and pieces. Anyway. I've heard people singing praises of the rules, you're the first I have heard of with negative ideas on it. What struck you as being so poor? Seems like the people who like it really like it!

Duncan: I talk about 5th where it's on topic. This was not a thread on 5th. I do feel kinda strongly about the subject of AT-43 models, and thought it was appropriate to post those thoughts of mine in this thread. As far as trolling, that's just amusing. And as far as "old threads", it's only what, 10 days old? Hardly threadromancy. So what exactly is an "AT-43 Sentinel"?

OK, just went and gorged my eyeballs on some Yokoyama. Goodness! I really DO like his designs. That's some really good stuff! And you thought that GW had their prices high! I found some site listing a bunch of his work, most of it was only ever sold at a couple of events over in Japan. invivos, do you know where to even get ahold of some of these models???

Edited b/c it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Well the Molot is not really new. It is based on the Nakovalny chassis that has been out for awhile. The Molot just has a new 'hood' (and weapons). But I think the Nakovalny chassis is the best looking walker type miniature ever done for a miniature game. That's just a personal opinion of course.

I agree the U.N.A. Firetoads are not that great but they do grow on you after awhile.

I recently picked up a couple packs of the Red Blok RPG troops and the paint level on them was amazing. WAY above the UNA stuff and better than I've seen on other Red Blok stuff even. Not sure if there was a change or something but I was quite impressed.

Yeah sure Currently HASEGAWA is planning to rerelease some of the kits namely a cool flyer called FALKE in 1:20 scale. You can order some of the kits from www.hlj.com , check there for scifi and then series Maschinenkrieger. Most kits are "garage kits" from small manufacturers and thus are rather expensive resin or vinyl kits with very limited production numbers. There are also some great art/model books unfortunately only in japanese language available. Some of the armour suits are prepainted kits but I think most of them are out of production at the moment...
But his stuff is great indeed

Nope, had a look. Not fussed about those ones I'm afraid. Can't see how they can be considered better than the AT43 walkers... but then again you know what they say about opinions )

I know it's part of what makes up the banter on a board but I've always been of the opinion that that alot of comments on models are wasted. The reason being that it's like art, we are all different as to what we like If you are trying to make a point about a rule set, them you have a chance of making someone see your point of view, but you can't make some like 'squares' if they like 'spheres'.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

Opinions abut the aesthetic are often subjective. Comments like "great paint job and this is a finished production model" are helpful. (I just made that up, I have no idea if it's true.)

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
