For a whole model, but you get the idea for the colours.

In other news, Plank is too lazy to tell him how so Plank just gives a link to a GW tutorial! Go spend your money on insane amounts of paint NOW!

I simply use Scorched Brown on the metallic areas of my necrons.

It's sort of a drybrush technique, but I vary the amount of paint on the brush from model to model to make it more interesting

I use black primer followed by tinbitz (full coverage) followed by boltgun metal (almost full coverage) followed by 1:1 black ink water wash. Gives a grimy rusty effect.

I used a selective application of watered down orange and then drybrushed back over it.

I think it depends on just how rusty you want your metal to look.

For something minor an undercoat or wash of tin bitz would work, but for a lot of rust you'll need an orange color in there. A series of drybrushes over a black undercoat is what I use- black, tin bitz, boltgun metal, mithril silver (very light), blazing orange (very light in select areas).

You know what else helps guns look rusty? Correct spelling.

Tamiya Smoke also works wonders.

I use a thin irregular line of schorched brown and then firey orange over it leaving a tad bit of brown showing. Then a little wattered bown sepia ink. Heres what it looks like.
