So, I’ve been soaking in the rumors about 5th edition. Since I play I.G. the lens I use to process them is “How do these new rules affect the I.G?” I came up with this line of thought. IF 1) The I.G. player can shoot through that players own guys and the target gets a +4 cover save 2) if the opposite is true. There are 2 implications to this that I found. First is that a plasma gun is depreciated due to the fact that the enemy gets a cover if wounded by a shot fired from a second rank solider. Second, Cameleoline! Instead of a 4+ cover save from an enemy targeting in the second rank it’s a 3+.

So, the HQ Squad hiding behind the Infantry squad is at 3+ cover save, not too shabby for 50 points before upgrades. Thoughts?

Given this is only valid between the release of 5th ed and the release of the next codex: IG. I'm thinking about 6months to a year

Cameleoline is expensive, as you must give it to every Guard Infantry unit you bring; for a reasonably-sized Guard infantry army, that's going to run you around 100 pts. It's not a "bad" doctrine, but it does tend to dictate force composition (in much the same way that "Mechanized" does).

Need to see how the ordnance rules read, particularly scattering, before I reach any sweeping conclusions about 5th ed Guard.
