I was thinking about 40k yesterday while I was building a vindicator and I realized how fundemental and huge a change it will be to have only the troops acting as scoring units. If I am right this will make 40K not unlike fishing. With fishing you have bait that you use to catch the fish. In 40K you will be using all of your other units to pull the attention away from your troops.

If your opponent chooses to go for the troops you can use heavy weapons, various fast attack, and or elites to do damage to his troops. A good example will be my vindicators. With the new rules it seems to me that running them right up to the objective on the first turn is viable. If the enemy shoots at them because of the cannon they're not shooting at my scoring units. Next turn if they are still there they can blast away with their cannons knowing full well that something will be in range. Probably my opponents troops!

Just a thought.

The tactical gambits that will come up because of this, and there being more conformity between army lists in the troop section will be interesting. There was a point made about this in another thread that was discussing whether you should target the screen, or the units that the screen is protecting. I think this has the potential to add a cool element to wh40k. It has a little more dimension than the rocks, paper, scissors of 4th.
