Is it possible? I've tried brake fluid bath for a week now, with a rotary toothbrush and it's not budging. Is there anything that will remove the enamel and won't eat the plastic?

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I know locally Auto Zone sells a product called either Purple Power, or Powerclean. It is a driveway degreaser, and it will take paint off with out hurting the plastic.

Simple Green will strip paint off of plastic, for metal figures I use pinesol.

I've heard of using simple green to remove paint before, but is it going to work on enamels? I would think the "Purple stuff" degreaser would work a bit better, since the paint is oil based... however, the long puzzled question: is it going to eat the plastic? Metal I can understand being safe, but plastics are a bit more delicate!

I used "Purple Power", a version of CSC that Walmart sells, on the plastics this week. There were a few metal figs, howling banshees and some warlocks to be precise, that were thrown in and allowed to sit for about 2 hours before I checked up on them. The outer layers of paint peeled off the way acrylics normally do with brake fluid, but the undercoat of white primer stuck on, particularly in the cracks. The hair on the banshees still has some traces of color in it and the cracks in the rune armor of the warlocks is the same. I'll end up picking this out with a dental probe since it gets flaky when it dries.

The plastics on the other hand look like they may have been damaged... there are parts where the primer has stuck, but kind of crinkled and cracked, giving them a rough texture. the detail hasn't been lost in most cases, but the armor isn't smooth. Can spray primer damage plastics? The coat of paint these figures had was so thick I wasn't able to tell if the damage was pre-existing or from the cleaning bath that I gave them. I just want my 20 guardians and 20 avengers to look their best... help!
