Who here reckons Star Craft 2 is taking too long to be released? By looking at the screen shot and comparing it games like DOW, the "new" graphics looks kinda dated IMO. What do YOU think?

I think it is taking to long to realease, but then about looks it has not seemed to have bothered the Koreans which is a huge market for this game as they have been playing the first one for years now.

I think what i worry about most is that fact RTS a genre is so stale at the moment, no real stragegy in many games other then spamming certain units, which just makes it rock paper scissors requires no real strategic thought. I mean soulstorm for the first time made me think when you had to destroy the sisters shrines, it was like bugger i have to come up with a plan other then just pbuilding a perfect army and just right clicking alot. Even world in conflict had no real strategy just a click here with your strongest units mentality hidden benhind some good graphics and lots of explosions.

Relic however did make some great leaps forward with company of heros so hopefully DOW2 is in good hands.

But Star Craft 2, i dont know it looks more of the same, i like things to break new ground like warcraft 3 did all those years ago introducing elements that are pretty standard now.

Though as i said i am still waiting for strategy games that require me to engage my brain once more and think strategically rather then just stack building ques and click as fast as possible.

Sorry for going a little off topic, but i think people will ultimately still snatch the thing off the shelves even if its not realeased for many a month to come.

Has Blizzard ever made a game that hasn't taken forever to come out?

I am certain they are well aware of Korea and Starcraft, considering they announced Starcraft 2 officially in Korea.

But i think its the Korean market that might make the game gak, they will just be pretty much creating the same game with a few extra units... and well as i said would like them to be trying something a little more than that.

A carbon copy with flasher graphics wont really cut it... well for me

But having said that sure blizard will still get my money and i will give it a try

Taking too long to release? Man, do you realize how long we Spore enthusiasts have been waiting for a game? Not to mention Duke Nukem Forever. It might be a while, but once DNF comes out, it will undoubtedly rock so hard your face melts, you get consumed by the console, and you live out an electronic Valhalla.

That's why I hate RTS games. Go for RTT games like Total War or Nexus: Jupiter Incident. Even COH has this except they make you do the stupid base-building crap too.

As long as it's not underwhelming when it comes out, they
can take as long as they want.

I still get the itch to play Diablo 2 from time to time.

RTS games got stale a long long time ago. I started up with the first one ever (Dune 2 for those of you who remember that game) and played a whole slew of them after that. I more or less got sick of the genre after playing millions of hours of warcraft 2. Starcraft kept me interested for about a week before I realized it was all the same junk and uninstalled it. I played though warcraft3 because the story was interesting and hero units were cool...and DOTA was fun but the game lacked any actual strategy other than what to build and when. Dawn of war was nice since you could repair units and you didn't have to mine gold and wood or whatever resource nuggets were out there. That was kind of cool...oh yah and it was 40k, that was cool, but again no strategy involved. It was just another example of build a glob of units and send them out. Hope your glob is better than your opponent's glob.

If you want some actual strategy, you need to go to turn based games or semi real time games. The lack of time to think and specific timing of movement and units takes strategy out of games and makes them a contest of click reflexes. The total war games are some good ones that I would highly recommend. That or some older turn based ones like Master of Orion 2.

All in all though, if Blizzard is behind the game, I have faith that it will be, at worst, worth playing though once. For the story line if nothing else.

not only that, every game Blizz has ever produced has been designed for mid-range systems. It is practically the company's M.O.

I believe their graphics engine includes DirectX 10 effects. Shading and what-have-you. I am not up on the jargon.

DoW is more for FUN. Starcraft 2 is a precision calibrated sport.

also,

STARCRAFT 2!

I want to play it just to see how the plot advances.

I love how, incidentally, those who are the best at the game are really thin Koreans. They're like thin long-distance runners with their endurance click-fests.

They are also so hard core that several of them die every year because they are too wrapped up in playing their games to take care of themselves (or in some cases, their children). Sad really, but it does make for a lot of people with 1337 sKi1Lz.

Gaming club. ALWAYS.

I don't think that RTS being stale will stop Starcraft 2 from making a huge profit. Everyone I know who's played the first one is willing to buy the game just for, as mentioned earlier, the plot continuation.
