After a school-induced hiatus, my friends have convinced me to get back into the game. I've heard good things about mech tau and it looks like they'll be killer in 5th edition. so here's the list:

HQ
Shas’o w/ Plasma rifle, missile pod, multitracker- 112
Shas’el w/ Plasma rifle, missile pod, targeting array, hardwired multitracker- 97

ELITE
2x crisis suites w/ plasma rifle, missile pod, multitracker- 124
2x crisis suites w/ plasma rifle, missile pod, multitracker- 124

TROOPS
12x firewarriors, shas’ui w/ bonding knife
Devilfish w/ sensor spines, disruption pods- 230

12x firewarriors, shas’ui w/ bonding knife
Devilfish w/ sensor spines, disruption pods- 230

12x firewarriors, shas’ui w/ bonding knife
Devilfish w/ sensor spines, disruption pods- 230

12x firewarriors, shas’ui w/ bonding knife
Devilfish w/ sensor spines, disruption pods- 230

HEAVY SUPPORT
Hammerhead w/ railgun, SMS, sensor spines, disruption pod, target lock- 180
Hammerhead w/ railgun, SMS, sensor spines, disruption pod, target lock- 180

total: 1737

Seems like pretty straight forward stuff... anything i'm missing? ideas on what i should do with the other 13 points?

decoy launchers are the first peice of wargear I'd get on my vehicles before anything else.

And since your IC's at best benefit from screening you might want target locks to have them join your crisis squads, this is optional though.

you may also want, no you do want multi-trackers on your hammerheads. Move 6" and fire everything seems like a good thing, assuming fast vehicle rules let you do that.

Ugh. Well, alot of players swear by the various incarnations of mech tau.

I do not. Once demechanized, they don't have much going.

I run drone/suit tau myself.

Not saying it is a bad army, but I've personally tallied every mech vehicle in a mech tau army when I've gone first. It was not a fun game for either of us. It had 1 less mech unit than you, and 1 more suit unit.

Why you are bonding those FW is beyond me, the odds of them not being assaulted are pretty close to zero. Assault = dead for FW.

Why you'd buy the big HQ instead of duplicating the littler one is beyond me. By the way, the HQ's and the Hammerheads should all have Black Sun filters.

Sensor spines are crap on devilfish.

You don't really need the target locks on the Shas'els They should be hiding in the Suit teams with the new edition, and since they have the same weapon loadouts as the other members of the squads they probably will never make use of the target locks. You could however add in some Markerlight drones if you dropped some Fire warriors since they get relentless in the new edition. If you dropped the target locks on the 'els and 2 fire warriors out of each of the line squads you could add a shield drone and a marker drone to each HQ. that way when they joined the Suits you could make your regular Crisis hit on threes half the time.

I've got 50 points left to play with so i'll try squeezing in some drones, i've just heard good things about disruption pods in the 5th edition rules as well, so dropping some FW to gain some drones could be cool. i've heard its hard to fit all 12 behind a devilfish anyways
