Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

If you guys were interested, I could write an army builder program that runs in a browser. It would be similiar to the Armies of Immoren program (which does not run in a browser). No stats or rules, just point costs. Heck, it could even be set up with things like "Gun fex", "Dakka fex", etc.

malfred's facitiousness has once again inspired my dreams of world domination.

if you are not interested, that is cool.

It is something we have considered, but unfortunately, GW prohibit the publication of stat lines and tend to crack down pretty hard. I cant imagine they would let us keep an army builder up and running so it is probably not worth the effort. So in summary, if you make a good one we will put it up, but GW will probably ask for it to be taken down pretty quickly.

Taco, your selflessness belittles me.

Good on you for the Idea though-great!

I would like to offer any feeble services I may.

So how does Army Builder do it then? Because it's a generic program
and not linked to anything else specific?

it's all about the adventure, babe.

Nah I'm not interested in anything that could jeopardise relationships with people in the gaming industry. Copy-right violation could hurt myself with Science Fiction guys, too.

"Ohh, you're 'that guy'."

yap. Although I don't know why GW couldn't go after the guys who do the datafiles. In fact, I can't believe they haven't. If you don't protect your copyrights you lose them. Or maybe that is just US law. I am not an expert.

This is a common misconception. The "must protect or you lose rights" thing is a ploy on the part of intellectual property lawyers. This really only applies to trademarks, which is a separate area of the law.

I say give it a try.

ah ic. Back when I was into Abandonware (which I suppose I still am), that was the argument used to justify removing old games from sites.

So for example, you can't download Ultima 3 because the copyright owners want to protect their right to the name Ultima 3. And the plot, and the characters, ad nauseum.

the other argument is that they may want to publish Ultima 3 SOMEDAY. But not today. And good luck getting support for your old software.

I am just bitter because my Sid & Al's Incredible Toons disks don't work anymore.

like I said, I am not an expert.

I was under the impression that GW had some sort of deal going on with Army Builder as you often see it promoted in GW literature and materials.

Figure this is the place to post my displeasure at the cancellation of AutoAssault and then NCsoft's denying the community access to the code and such despite our ability and desire to keep it going. I would have gladly paid $$ to buy that game one-off, but couldn't stomach monthly bills for what was basically a great single-player game. And now they're content with sitting on it and letting it rot. Blerg that

OT - Yesterday I was messing with my ancient copy of Interactive Armylist that GW put out years back. Kroot Mercs may be the only list in there still 'valid' but as I fiddled with the CSM list from 2 books back I was shocked at how few good options there were. And how much it resembles the new book ... except with customizable demons
