Subject: Space Marine armoured company in 5th?

So, I've been sifting the Space Marine Codex rumors, and they're making me think. This is probably a bad thing, as they're making me think about buying $200 worth of tank models!
Rumor #1: Power of the machine spirit will allow Land Raiders to move 6" and fire all weapons.
Rumor #2: LR Redeemer will have S6 AP3 super-heavy flamers.
Rumor #3: Scouts will be cheaper than they are now.
Rumor #4: Anti-tank weapons will become more expensive and rarer.
Not really a rumor any more #5: Vehicles, especially AV14 all around vehicles, will be harder to kill.
So, I'm leaning toward four or five (depending on what I have the points for) Land Raiders of various types, plus a couple of scout squads kitted for CC, a terminator squad, and a character in terminator armour with attached terminator retinue.
The idea that this might work in 5th edition is just a hunch right now. I could be totally crazy. It might not even be possible in the new 'dex. What do you guys think?

a four LR company is doable at 1750
a 5 LR company is bare bones at 2000
A 6 LR company is possible at 2500,

you put 4 LRs on the table and youll get some nasty looks. especially redeemers. killing MEQs on 2s is just wrong for a flamer template. by the way, is the capacity on redeemers going to be 10 or 15? it looks like they have the frag assault lauchers, so im going to assume they will be 15 like the crusader.

It should be very viable in 5th. Not only can you do land raider spam, but rhino rush is also viable again too. Should be good times for tank lovers...so long as you don't want your tanks to move and shoot.

if even half the rumours are true about the redeemer it will be one of the best vehicles in the game.
because their weapons are short range you will probably want to run them up on turn 1, so you may as well we carrying something (terminators). the you deploy your terminators and next turn pick something to shoot at. anything you see dies because flamer weapons (assuming this is no different) ignore cover saves, so you can shoot over the heads of your terminators, with no disadvantage, with S6 low AP (AP3 is a bit too good, ap4 is more likely) template weapons. then your temies shoot and charge and kill the stragglers. 3 of those in an army, with equivalent terminaotr squads, will kill at least half your opponents army by turn 2.
but as everything the rumors are likely too good to be true. i can see them being incredibly expensive and having little or no transport capacity, but even if that were the case they would be well worth taking.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

I had a Mechanized Marines style army setup for friendly games in V4 that worked out pretty well and it only gets better in V5. Personally I can't wait.
Mmm....Vindicators in V5 sound like they're going to be pretty good. Shame you probably can't take PotMS in the new codex.

This could be a very cool looking army with a lot of possitibility. LRC in tandem with the upcoming new LR varient looks to be fun times all around.

I still don't see how "rhino rush" is vaiable again.
I don't see how people will move their taxis 18" disembark 2", move 6" charge 6" for a 1st turn charge.
just because you can keep your troops in the rhino for a turn and they would auto-die, doesn't mean rhino rush is back.
I can see a game where turn 1, rhino's move, turn two they move again, 10 SMs disembark and rapid fire a poor enemy, then move through the enemy line rapid fireing or charging where appropriate, but I would not consider this a "rhino rush".

The best thing about the Redeemer weapon is not only is it Str6, AP3 - but the template can be thrown at distance just like the Hellhound weapon.
If all these rumors are true, it is going to be the ultimate weapon in 5th edition. Remember that there is almost nowhere to hide from this monster since true LOS will rule the roost and area terrain will no longer provide shelter.

Yeah, if the rumors are true for the new LR then it's going to be the ideal tank for 4th edition (especially if it can hold 15 marines/8 terminators).
Can't say I'm too surprised though.
New $60 model? Check.
Borderline OP rules to make people everyone want to buy said model? Check.

I'm hoping that the new LR gets retconned into the DA codex (like the crusader did...).
Either way, my new DA build is going to be mostly mechanized from here on out.

I didn't read about the Redeemer acting like the Hellhound. After playing against Hellhounds with my Guardian heavy Eldar army, I may just have to join the dark side. A couple of Redeemers and a LRC for the HS choices. Fun times.

I'm not saying that we have gone back to things being exactly like they were in 3rd edition with the blood angles rhino rush, because that's obviously not true. What I am saying is that having an army of all marines in rhinos speeding forward from the first turn and generally getting in your face very fast is going to happen again. I'll leave the specifics of all of it up the individual players, but we will see it again. Call it whatever you want.

You mean, no anti tank in the Heavy Support Section. I think lists can still be built with enough anti armor despite having 3 Land Raiders in the army. Although, I'm not ready to call it a top tier army.

If Marines do make a good mechanized army in 5th... all I can do is say w00t, and begin plans to crush my enemies.
Admittedly, having the Heavy Bolters on my Predator become main weapons is a little frustrating.

It does seem to make a bit more sense why Predators were so cheap in the DAs codex.
