I might just be dense, but I was just wondering what the reason was for splitting up necron units. I always see people suggesting making a unit of 10 immortals into 2 units of 5 etc.

a) So you can engage more targets at the same time;

b) So your opponents have to engage more targets at the same time;

c) So a single botched Morale test doesn't see a huge chunk of your army escorted off the board; and

d) To have more scoring units.

So if they have a really good round of shooting, they'll waste shots, doing X wounds to the unit, when there are less guys than that. Then they all get to WBB into the other unit.

Has anyone ever tried a pure "march of death" tactic? Where as the whole force moves forward as one piece? Warriors up the front, lord attached to immortals behind the warriors. destroyers behind or at the flank having 2 squads giving eachother wbb? I mean not splitting your force (especially) the destroyer off from the main group by using it's 12inch move.

Of course vs swarm armies I don't think "moving" is nessecary for all the infantries.

Yeah artillery and other template weapons like flamers are getting a lot more effective so if you bunch up against a couple of whirlwinds they will rain on your parade.
