So Im thinking of a few lists for a possible tourney that's coming up in a few months.
My buddy (and pretty much only practice) will be running chaos or black templars, and as mentioned wanted to get some games in to tune up the army list as needed.
My dilemma, such as it is, is that he wants to fight Nidzilla, which Im very inexperienced with (though I suspect there's more than point them at your opponent and charge).
Id be interested in seeing a few lists if anyone's interested in posting them, to see what I can put together.

The other part is that I have a newly aquired Dark Angels army that I may play instead of that, if it doesnt pan out. Im pretty much out of practice on this army too, especially with the new book that came out a bit ago. Again, Id like to see some lists for this army as well, except Deathwing or Ravenwing specific, those I cant do.

Going for 1750pt. lists.

Well, I suggest a RW army.
Start with Sammael on jetbike and add two fully kitted out RW squads (6 Bikers with plasmas or meltas, Vet Serg with power fist, Attack Bike, Tornado).
Add three cheap Predators with autocannons, heavy bolter sponsons.
This gives you a decent core.
The rest is personal preference.
DW Termies, Tactical squads, or Scouts.

you mentioned using a Scout squad, and this is something that caught my attention, but I wasnt sure if taking them would be worthwhile being that they vie for attention with Deathwing and Dreadnoughts, not to mention Company Vets.

Is there a use for scouts when it comes to picking elites that bumps them up there with their fellow dark angel specialists?
what kind of set up would you recommend? 10 scouts broken into 2 combat squads maybe one with shotguns or bolters and the other with range weaponry?

As I said, it's something that caught my interest, and Ive sorta been almost WANTING a reason to buy those new scout figures, lol.
Also, the ravenwing idea is good, I just dont have the models, I can do just the one bike squad w/ land speeder, attack bike, anything else?

10 scouts (ccw/bp) with a powerfist. These guys aren't much to write home about, but are decent/mediocre at 1) tying up shooty units, 2) stringing out and charging to block LOS to advancing Ravenwing/Deathwing.

Scouts will improve in the 5th ed.
First sniper rifles have pinning and rending, and second infiltrators can enter the table behind enemy lines (although you have to roll 1D6).
