Simple question: Can the Hellcannon still take Gifts of Chaos?

Yes, up to 50 points.
There's a PDF on the GW US website.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

So they invalidate the book, except for the Hellcannon taking Gifts from there.
...does GW really think anything through anymore?

Regarding the WD HoC "list", apparently not.

It cannot take gifts whatsoever - as far as the rules are concerned, Hordes of Chaos does not exist.
Sucks dont it.

Paradox. May be legal, but looks like an editorial oversight. :(

Aye. Another example: "Daemonic Aura & Daemonic Attacks: See page 29 of Hordes of Chaos." Meaning it still has a "demon save" when all other chaos demons have lost it. Or something. - Salvage

There is a difference between using the rules for a unit as stated, and sourcing items from a non-existant book. The ward save is an instinsic part of the unit, and could just have easily have been written in full in within the units description.
Gifts are inherently a piece of the HoC book, which no longer exists.
I think in regards to FAQ, you're more likely to gain the DoC ward that keep the current one and gain access to gifts.
