Stalwart Ultramarine Tactical Marine

Seattle, WA

This is the first list that I have really tried to build a strategy with. I want to use it for fifth edition games.

Captain 146pts
Terminator honors, 2x lightning claws, artificer armor, jump pack, bionics, melta bombs

3x Ten man tactical squads in Rhinos with smoke and extra armor, each with a power fist sarge w/artificer and master crafted weapon 283pts.

1x Nine man assault squad w/two plama pistols and a power fist sarge everyone has melta bombs (captain attached here) 258pts.

1x Ten man devastator squad with 4x missle launchers 230pts.

2x Vindicators w/smoke, extra armor, dozer blades 138pts.

As I said I want to run this list in fifth edition. The strategy I have developed so far is to bring up the vindicators towards the objective or within range of the enemy and pop smoke on turn 1. The devastator squad will stay back and shoot from a good position as they usually do. The tac squads will also approach the objective with the assault squad behind them acting as a counter assault force when needed. The marines will either fan out to form a firing line using the Rhinos and possibly the vindicators as cover or set up for some kind of assault charge against shooty armies. Oh yeah they will also pop smoke after movement in turn one if they even move.

I really need help with the tactics and build for this army. Any list ideas or tactical advice would be greatly appreciated. I will comb the boards here to. I have never won a game at my local store and I kind of want to. Thanks.

Bionics is a waste of pts.
Tactical squads and Assault squads should be led by Vet Sergs with power fists. Drop the melta bombs from the Assaulters as they should take on infantry.
The Vindicators would benefit from PotMS, no other upgrades. (If they would launch smoke, they would lose one round of shooting).

Not so sure about the new 5th ed rules, but I think you may consider dropping the captain and replacing him with a librarian...then give him FOD and the power that lets him re-roll all his dice rolls (forgot the name). This could make him really nasty in close combat. Also, are you going to give him an invulnerable save (whichever leader you take). Another option is the jump pack chaplain...he is great at leading assault squads.

Do your vet sgts have artificer armor? Not sure if that is worth it on a one wound model.

Finally, will you be able to take a 9 man squad in 5th ed when the new codex is out - or are you not writing it with this in mind?

Finally - I agree that POMS is best on the Vindicators
