This is my first large vehicle from Games Workshop. It was a bit of an experiment, to see how quickly I could paint a Hammerhead to a basic tabletop standard. I was looking for a tan-colored spray paint that I could use to very quickly paint a Tau Hammerhead. I found a Rustoleum product that was designed for spraying outdoor furniture and decided to give it a spin. My only two concerns were how it took a wash and how it would match up to the palette of Citadel colors.
Here's the spray paint that I used. It's got a bit of a gritty texture to it, which I wanted, and I found that it's a perfect color match to Citadel Deneb Stone.
Spray painted all of the major components. The pins on the engines are broken, so I had to spray first, then glue.
Basic priming and assembly. I basecoated the engines and part of the railgun with VMC black and used a 1/2" brush to edge with a mix of Bleached Bone and Skull White, though I got bored of mixing and started going straight Skull White.
Here's where I tried out the new Citadel washes. I painted the hatches Snot Green, the lenses & vision blocks Ultramarine Blue then washed with the Badab Black. I also used this to line the edges around the hatches. Most of this was done with a 1/4" brush. The rest of the lining was done with the Devlan Mud wash and a 000 brush. The Citadel washes do work on the primer, but I you have to be careful about how it's applied.
So far, excluding assembly and prep, this has probably taken less than 2 hours and is complete enough to put on the table.
Next steps are to clean up the over lining, edge some of the green and other miscellaneous details.

good job, ive been thinking of doing the white and red cities of death theme for a detachment for my tau and this looks like a good simple way to accomplish that

I'm thinking of adding some green to the engine cowling, the front of the nose, and the front of the railgun. I'm somewhat torn though, as I like the clean lines it currently has. The engines are also glued on, so it's a little harder to get in there than I would like.

I like the nice crisp look, and that base spray worked really well. I was just wondering if you were gonna add dust, wind damage, or firing damage. If not, cool, I'm just interested.

Probably not. The figures/vehicles are for the kids. Not completely out of the question though. I think I'll finish some of the edge lining and clean up some of the mispaints first and then see where it stands.

How'd the texture come out? Any chance of a close up to see how it behaves?

Yep, I can do that. This the same picture, just a section at full size. It's hasn't been cleaned up yet, but this also shows how the Devlan Mud did as a lining paint. You can probably best see the grittiness where the edges have been brushed with white.

That's the beauty of spraying with the base color and then edging with a half inch brush

I like it. Might I suggest in the future, you use this textured spray more selectively?
I'm thinking of my old bradley and m981 from the army, where each surface that was expected to be walked on was textured for a no slip grip.
You can easily get that with this by masking off areas to be textured and then spraying the model with a no texture spray to get everything else. A quick drybrush over those textured areas to bring it out and you're ready to rock.

Yep, that would work ... if I can find a comparable non-textured color ... or just basecoat in Dheneb Stone. This was somewhat of an experiment with a new spray, so I'm looking at some other colors too. There are a number of manufacturers of camo spray paints that I'm looking to try too.

This is a very interesting trick with the textured paint... Seems like you can dry brush on highlights very quickly and effectively.
I'd have to see the model in person to really know how it turns out, but it's worth knowing which paints are working for people.
